12/8 Status Update

It's time for another status update; airport edition! This is just a short trip over the weekend, it won't effect dev time much. Bugt I've got nothing better to do than write this, so you get an extra long update. This week I made a bunch of small adjustments to the release schedule and how updates are going to come out, so let's go through those:

Starting with At the Mountains of Friendship, the update is almost done I think. Except for some writing in BFF's relationship scenes. Since only $10 patrons will get to use BFF on release, I'm thinking just leaving those out at first. All the sexy content will be there, only the non-pairing girl-girl scenes will be missing. That way people can get the update earlier and I can just release the fully finished version of BFF a few weeks later or something. Holding up the entire update because of this seems a little silly, it's basically the least important content in the game.

Besides BFF and the new sanity mechanic, I've made a lot of interface changes. Scenes are no longer triggered from inside the girl info window and I've also added settings that let you autoplay scenes, and skip scenes that you've seen in previous runs. The "scene gallery" is gone, instead you can now view the whole scene from the regular gallery. What was the scene gallery is now called the sandbox, which is basically the regular game but with infinite money and some cheats to let you play around with strategies and such. And of course there's the new bonus scene with Emma.

Work on Naked Ambition is going slowly. I'm thinking about not having the Ulric content in .9, just having the time line expansion and the generic endings. This will speed things up and having just one character's route while nice isn't really the point of the update. I'm sorry this is taking so long. I probably shouldn't have declared the hiatus over when I did, since I still had to wait a while before I could work a lot on it at that time.But art is starting to come in and the framework of the update is pretty much in place, hopefully it won't be too long now. 

For the Netoria Tactics Steam release, I don't think I'm going to do the "season pass" kind of thing I talked about. Where the expansion content would be locked behind the paid versions. The new content will be available freely like the base game has been. So how am I going to differentiate the Steam release so I can charge for it? I'm thinking additional art. I'll add in some bonus art for scenes that's only available on the Steam version. That way it will be an enhanced edition that's technically a different product, but you're not missing out on content by not having it. The most obvious places for this are the places where all three of the guys share one piece of art of them doing stuff with Gwen. The early scenes too could use stuff, as right now they're told with the same cut-in graphics as the gropes. Having those be full pieces of art could be good. 

I'm still planning on doing those female Carwyn additional epilogues I talked about earlier before I make the golden route. Having just the one doesn't really work that well. While I'm at it I might add some more female Carwyn content earlier in the game too. Quarantining it a bit while I was developing the game was the right move, but I think with things all in place I can open it up more. The combination of the Gwen slut route and the female Carwyn route at the same time seems to be the most popular way to play the game, and has a pretty unsatisfying ending the way it is now, so that needs to be fixed.

I would have been fine either way, and had planned to support the steam release when it happened. But more art and more reason to play the game again never hurts.
