Announcement

It pains me to do this at mere months from my third anniversary on Patreon but recent events had me realize I need to make some serious changes.
As some of you may know my main gig is not art but software development, and I’ve recently gotten involved into a project that requires a lot of my attention.
In addition to that I do freelance work in mobile development, which also takes a significant amount of time.
As a result of this all the time I dedicate to my art career is to all effect my free time.
This has been sustainable until now with heavy sacrifices but I feel like I’ve reached the point of diminishing returns.
The recent drop in pledge amount had me realize that I’m taking a lot of work from Patreon that thanks to the heavy discounts that I offer barely makes sense economically but still takes a huge chunk of time off my schedule.
Recently all my streams have been spent working on commissions, which despite being often very enjoyable hardly give me any chance or time to work on my personal projects and most importantly improve in my craft.
I feel like I’ve been stagnating for a long while now technique wise and I would really benefit from having more time to work on improvement and most importantly to rekindle with art as a pastime, go back to what used to draw a lot of you guys in.
So it’s with a heavy heart that I have to let you guys know that I will be drastically limiting or completely removing all pledge levels that include commissions, and leave Patreon as a “tip jar” or just a way to get early access and full size work.
If you leave as a result of this I will understand, the discount on my commissions was very convenient to some of you but I feel like it was just getting past the point where it was worth sacrificing my very little time.
I have plans for my Patreon going forward, some of which I hope to share with you soon but believe me they’re going to be exciting, for now however I only have sad news to report.

I still haven’t decided how exactly I’m going to change, but I would like to know what you guys think, should I remove commissions completely? Leave them only for the $50 level, bump up the prices to match my regular commission prices or leave a few sketch slots?
I was thinking of just cutting all the commission rewards cold turkey but I’d like to hear what you guys think.

That said, the Patreon feed will soon host more finished work, as I’m planning to try and finish at least one colored and/or shaded piece per week starting from the middle of November when all my other projects will calm down.

Addendum

This should go without saying, but this does not affect pledges for October. If you have been charged for your support in early November you're still getting your commission.

Comments

I always thought it was odd that pledge commissions were notably cheaper than just getting one normally, so if you do keep them definitely bump the prices at least.

Rubbutts

The selfish side of me would suggest bumping prices up, which would ideally reduce the amount of people getting monthly commissions as people drop out, while still keeping the money going from more dedicated people. That's from the viewpoint of a dumb pledger who is only in it for the supercute artwork though! It's all up to you, so if you don't want to tackle commissions, then that's perfectly understandable. Gotta figure out what works for yourself!
