Good morning all!
Another big shout out to Oriem for setting us up with these cover stories in such a convenient way! Sorry for the sound quality here, we forgot to pull the mic down.
We are planning on posting these each Friday for a bit. Thank you so much to all of you who have kept suggesting these for us! We're excited to experience these!

2025-01-20 17:05:39 +0000 UTCIf you’re interested in having more of Oda’s art, id recommend picking up the color walk compendium (volume 1 would have no spoilers). It’s a collection of all the colored art that Oda has done for the series, mostly color spreads of the crew, but also volume and shonen jump covers, the occasional colored page from the manga, etc. some of the color spreads make it into the anime openings as Easter eggs, but otherwise its a lot of really nice art you won’t get watching the anime, and much of it is quite beautiful. Plus there are a few interviews and stuff as well, if you find such things interesting

2025-01-20 15:20:28 +0000 UTClove you girls keeping up with the cover stories! it's something unique to the one piece manga, in which from time to time oda uses the first page (the cover page) of each weekly release to tell short stories about the cast. it's fun but also relevant to the actual canon and oftentimes we do find the connecting point into the main story. it gives you background info, so i love that you are checking it out! also since you loved seeing oda's manga art so much maybe you could check out some of the color spreads he's been drawing up until the point you1re caught up. they are big spreads that really showcase oda's wonderfully detailed art! maybe Oriem could help you out with compiling them, in case you're interested.

In episode 3 of the Live Action, Zoro recognizes Kuro (who's still pretending to be Klahadore). Zoro says he looks familiar, and mentions the "Funky Bar" on Mirror Ball Island. Even though Jango wasn't in the Live Action, it was a fun little easter egg for those of us who remembered the cover story.

It's the cover story of single chapters, which means there originally was at least one week of waiting time in between images when reading the manga while it was getting published.

2025-01-17 21:07:11 +0000 UTCYou'll probably only be able to cover a small amount of cover stories for the moment; without seeing something ahead of where you are that is. Your friend who helps with the SBS would likely be able to help you on that. But that is all Oda's art (as the story has been on going for 27 years you will see that style change slightly over the years while still remaining One Piece/Oda's style) and as readers of the manga, there isn't always a cover story happening and is usually just a fun piece of art requested by fans of a character doing something silly with an animal. The cover story is delivered one individual chapter at a time usually with a narrator-esque description describing what is happening. You will be glad to have seen/read these cover stories going forward! Can't wait to see more, love how much you both love the story.

2025-01-17 20:05:46 +0000 UTCMy only comment would be that you might want to pause and take your time looking at all the images. The One Piece anime has much simpler art than One Piece *(the manga I mean), and a good percentage of the cover story images won't be TOO complex, but when Oda wants too, he is going to CRAM stuff in those images. So taking a few extra seconds to really go over an image might be good practice if you see one and you just get overwhelmed. Just a recommendation of course.

One thing you can look into after your caught up on color spreads and SBS to where you are in the anime is maybe the color spreads? Some of them are really cool and show the straw hats in fun situations, but are not part of the chapters at all. His art can get really amazing when you see some of the double page spreads he does for the manga especially when introducing a new place.

I’ve already informed Haylo about what they are back when I introduced the Cover Stories, and I’ve planned for them to react to the Color Spreads after they've finished the Cover Stories. That timing will allow me to present a broader selection of Color Spreads while avoiding any details or characters that could reveal things they haven’t yet encountered in the anime.

2025-01-17 15:34:26 +0000 UTCOdas original art is in black n white. In 2012 Shueisha, the publishing company for the manga, started releasing a digitally colored version. The digitally colored version is more accurate to Odas color scheme than the anime is. Not that the anime is far off or anything. Unfortunately the digitally colored version is only available, officially speaking, in Japanese. So, when there's not a cover story or a fan requested cover page for a chapter. Oda will draw a double page spread called color spreads. These have been released into a hard cover book format showing all of odas color spreads. The first one covers east blue to skypiea called One Piece color walk compendium. These drawings aren't Canon. They're just fun drawings Oda does involving the crew members. An example would be Zoro laying on a giant dog reading a book with a dumbbell on top of the book. Next to the dog is luffy sitting on a bench reading a book while wearing reading glasses using his toes to turn the pages while eating meat with his hands.

They make this world even more tangible and big, and the story full. Most stories 'forget' about the side characters after the main ones aren't around anymore.

I am not sure you know this or not, but the cover story is only release 1 page per chapter. So to us, it's very interesting to anticipate the next one. A complete cover stories can take months.

It's nice to re-read it with you bcs I often forgot little details such as why Fullbody got demoted. It's because he saved his dancing friend Jango! 🥹 Looking forward to another cover stories next week! (ps. Oda's drawing is so beautiful and detailed!! I don't recommended you to look for it yourself bcs spoilers but maybe Oriem can help you to look for spoiler-free colored drawings!)

I don't think it's officially available anywhere digitally, so you'd have to Youtube for it, though.
