Ok... context... as a Brazilian trans woman... since you are now in Brazil... one of the countries that kills its trans population in larger numbers than others ( but we are both white, so on the safer side )... I do understand telling others you are trans. I am a PhD in Architecture in the University of São Paulo and I do assist as a teacher in classes... because we are underfunded and do not get enough professors... as a volunteer... because again.. we are underfunded. I do not even have a research grant and struggle to keep up with bills days to days. BUT... that said... outside of safe spaces... I do not care to tell I am trans. Trans hate here is quite real, and there is some reading where you make that known. I make it known in academic spaces because I want to make students know, it is a safe space and I can help and make myself visible. But I am selective on where. I just had an experience of neonazi hate in a short trip that could have gone on a path of this text being impossible to write. The doubt on the assholes makes me be safe and home. Just... be careful. If you ever need, drop me a line, I am always a shoulder if I cannot be anything else.
