not feeling like i can properly articulate my more specific thoughts, but i can get the point across by saying that; this video is really great. thanks for making this!

What a lovely video, and thanks for the replies! Cosmic Mythos; Yeah I feel strongly the same that it planted a seed in me that bloomed into "optimistic nihilism", the exact thing you described. We make our own meanings, so lets fill the universe with kindness, love, exploration and art. E: Augh, posted by accident. Biopunk; hell yes sister you phrased it so good. It does rock, I wish we had more stories where the biohorror twists into biowonder tho. Where the protagonist seizes the power for themselves and their self-actualization. Here's to many more years of interesting, weird and wonderful videos!

I really appreciate your earnest appraisals of eroge not only as a fellow trans leftist eroge fan, but also as someone who occasionally struggles with a fear of appearing "cringe" or, I guess to be a little more precise, inscrutable or unapproachable. It helps to know that, no matter how much I feel like I'm too sicko to get along with X, or too normie to get along with Y, there are people like you out there being exactly what you wanna be and talking about exactly what you wanna talk about, and living a generally awesome life surrounded by love and friends and support as a result. I don't know if I'm quite yet at the stage where I can go forth without fear of appearing cringe, but if a team of creators in the 90s could make a celebration of a game like Sex 2, and in so doing indirecty inspire a generation of future nerds and academics to explore and embrace dank old eroge and form rich communities around them, then what do I have to fear really?

One of the games that has endured the most in my mind is a Spanish amateur DOS game called "Cry Baby Cry" that found its way into some demo CDs that came bundled with magazines. The game is basically a bunch of... 12? 14 years old kids? compiling the top ten bamboozles they pulled out at school that year around mid 90s. I think a lot about it. Because I feel there's always this "what if I have nothing to say, I need to say something relevant to say in my work" fear that can stop you from create something. And here are these kids, who just probably had a few days of laugh making minigames compiling moments like that time one of them farted in class. They got their joy, some people found it funny and here I am posting about it decades later. EDIT: They even remade it to run on modern hardware because there is still people who remember it! https://cbcforever.wordpress.com/

so this might be a bit beyond your scope but would you consider covering the date a live series? there's...quite a bit to sift through but there's a bundle on steam of the date a live vns. i've always been curious about the series but there's So Much it was daunting to figure out where to start

maddie hunter

Excellent video, especially the end. Here's to another year~

Froey

Please cover more Mystery Thriller visual novels similar to Danganronpa from the 90’s👰🏻‍♀️👑

also this is completely unrelated and vain but omg is that a fire emblem three houses uniform bag at the end? I love it!

Hubertfireemblem

Thank you! This made me really emotional and happy!

Hubertfireemblem

Congratulations on your second channel anniversary! I am so happy for you and I hope that even greater things come your way! I will get a bit sappy here but you have no idea how much I enjoy your videos. Not only are they very informative but they also include a little piece of insightful commentary that always hits close to home. I always struggled with the idea of not being able to be what I considered to be “normal”. Whatever it was because of my family, my upbringing, my mental health, or my interests, I always felt the odd one out. As time passes, I have embraced those messy, cringy, and weird parts of myself and, to be honest, I have never been happier. I still struggle with imposing myself extremely high standards of “normalcy”, but while it is not as bad as before, I still needed to hear your words today. Thank you for reinforcing the idea of the goodness behind imperfect but genuine things.

ahi

wait is i just realized. is xtc meant to be. ecstasy but also! This was such a good video. It felt so earnest. You continue to be one of my favorite video essayist. You also genuinely made me appreciate eroge in a way I didn't before

shrike

i really appreciate how heartfelt this video is, as someone with a niche passion for weird old video games it's been a joy to find your videos, and something of an inspiration for my own creative works, especially with this video. thank you so much for making what you do! i wanted to add as a potential question for a future video, do you have any resources/advice for PC-98 acquisition & operation in the modern day? Alternatively, would you consider doing a video on the subject & your other retro computers?

sprily

Wow, I’m so sincerely excited to see the future of this channel/patreon!!! This video really hit me like a truck, the art in the game so deeply resonated with me, I’m a huge fan of artists like Gensho Sugiyama and the like. And hearing you talk so passionately about art, music, games, computers and your own personal experiences with them all really ignites my own passions/inspirations ❤️ keep doing what you love and screaming as loud as possible about it, this all really resonates with so many people in so many different ways. ((And now I’m realizing I’m leaving such a sincere comment on a video called Sex 2))

Ziggy

Thank you so much!

DDL added - enjoy!

Noelle Aman

That was so lovely and I really resonated with everything you said about art as a dialogue and trying to understand the passion behind the work. And thank you for the little shout-out in the ending montage 😄

Aria of Flowers

well that was beautiful. so happy an english-speaking person finally gave this game coverage!

dead_heather

I haven't finished watching the video yet but I just want to say that I'm going to cue up the section from 13:01-19:42 the next time I get asked why I enjoy a lot of the things I do because it encapsulates my feelings on how I view media really well. Great stuff!

Rando042

No worries :D it's 2am here anyway so ig this is the universe telling me to go sleep

Nyx

I'll work on it later tonight! Sorry about that.

Is the download (/hosted on a different platform) coming? Patreon's player doesn't want me going fullscreen, apparently
