Mid-video update - Horrendously Busy Edition
Added 2023-07-10 16:49:32 +0000 UTCHello all!
It's that time again for another update in the middle of video production -- which is... rather hectic this time, as I'm juggling a ton of different things. On top of two music jobs, I'm also working on getting ready to move, which means being in packing hell. It should all be over in a month or two, but as it stands right now I'm kind of overwhelmed with things to do.
That said, I've got no plans of taking a break with video production -- things are going smoothly, and the Gun-Katana video seems to have brought in quite a few new people! Thank you all for breaking the Patreon past $1,300, I'm so happy to see people enjoy the new video so much! I don't think I wanna make anything THAT long again any time soon, but it was a blast and the reception to it warms my heart <3
On the note of... I have nothing to segue with, I'm now on Tumblr for those who are on there! Twitter's gone down the gutter, and the format of the site works better for my brain, so I'm spending most of my social media time there. https://ameliedoree.tumblr.com/
Alrighty, let's get to the updates!
Shiniyuku Kimi: This ended up being the game for this month, as all of my game consoles are packed up soooo... no Yuna yet, and plus Yuna 3 is longer than I thought it'd be. That said, I'm very excited to give this game a glowing review, and progress is going smoothly. I've already 100%'d the game, script production has started and is going nicely. God bless you Ban'ya for writing weird feminist guro horror.
September's video: I'm actually kind of at a loss for what to do after Shiniyuku. I think Pia Carrot 2 and Yuna 3 are the most likely. Pia Carrot 2 should be comfy and cozy and easy to talk about, and Yuna 3 is probably good just to round out the trilogy but I'd get started on it later than I want due to needing to get stuff situated after moving. An oddball here would be Shizuku, as it's a short title (which is good), that mostly demands research (which I can do at any time), but it's also a very important denpa title and... I dunno, I kind of want a break from horror for a month. Maybe I should just talk about Parfait...
Other media: As shown in last month's update, I'm currently keeping a list of game requests and potential future video topics - so if you have anything else to suggest, please let me know so I can add it there! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1WF_2ADCa5UY63yygiElEyGr35UPCf-jfGivuHAeaiqs/edit#gid=0
Aaaaand that's it for the time being! If you have any questions for the next video, please feel free to ask down below and I'll be happy to answer as many as I can! Until next time, see y'all later - I'm gonna go drown myself in cardboard moving boxes for a while. ββ(> _ <)

it's less about the content of the game itself (i find the concept of a man who only experiences the world as a fleshy abomination after a brain injury and finding solace in an inhuman creature who appears normal to him to be a very compelling concept) and more that i'm just really not a fan of gen urobuchi's writing in general, and a lot of the themes fell flat to me because of how much i hated every character except tanbo. and by "hate" i mean i didn't find any characters besides her enjoyable or engaging, i would be able to stomach saya and fuminori's horrific actions and descent into depravity as a part of the narrative if they weren't so insufferable. fuminori's friends were annoying and it was hard to sympathize with them. not to get into spoilers, but i think the part with the neighbor is a major low point and to me read as edgy nonsense and only one thematically substantial thing happens during that entire segment and it's at the end. edit: accidentally hit save and i meant to add that it's a shame because i think the ideas and concept behind saya no uta have a lot of potential but in my opinion, it's executed horribly and is unnecessarily edgy to the point of bordering on juvenile at points. also, personal thing, but i really don't like how saya is repeatedly described as looking like a child when they could have just gone with her being a young/petite woman who doesn't really understand human society because she isn't one so she doesn't bother with adhering to norms of how a woman should act. i think i see where people see the thematic meaning in saya no uta, because there are some genuinely good parts, but for me the bad vastly outweighs the good. and again, just not really a gen urobuchi fan in general. i appreciate your willingness to listen though, in contrast i'd like to hear what you like about it

2023-09-16 20:15:48 +0000 UTCWhat!? Both great games but I think Saya no Uta's sexual content is probably more validated artistically than any other eroge i personally have played, anything actually arousing about it (no, not talking about Saya) serves to disgust both the player with themselves and with Fuminori and simultaneously identify with him, and thus his deteriorated depravity. It's a chilling and upsetting work and not for everyone but it's certainly effective and horrible and beautiful and maybe even worth hating?? You wouldn't be the first. Though I am curious what exact opinions of yours you want to see validated.

2023-09-16 19:44:52 +0000 UTCI'm curious if you'd cover Gnosia? It's a sci-fi time loop visual novel that I absolutely adored playing, and it really hasn't gotten enough attention. Besides that, it also features canon non-binary characters, which I think is really neat :) When it comes to general requests though, I'm big on otome games, and have an interest in BL games, so I'd be happy to hear about any of those!

2023-07-24 01:41:11 +0000 UTCfor an eroge request: idk how into yaoi you are but i'm really itching to hear someone talk about sweet pool or maybe other nitro+ works, like the (in)famous saya no uta (which i don't say as someone who likes it i say that as someone who hates it LOL and i have no idea what you would think but if someone out there validated my opinions on it that would be amazing) for a non eroge request: would also love to hear your thoughts on ryukishi07's works though everyone and their mom in the vn community probably has something to say about higurashi and ESPECIALLY umineko
