Noah’s pulse quickened as the door swung open. Mason stood there, tall and athletic, his casual smile brightening at the sight of Noah. “Hey, Heather invited me,” he said, his voice relaxed, but then his turquoise eyes flicked down to Noah and Caden’s joined hands. Instinctively, Noah let go, the warmth slipping away as a tense silence settled between them.
Before the silence could stretch further, Heather swooped in, throwing her arms around Mason with a playful hug. “Mason! Thanks for coming. I didn’t think you’d get here this fast,” she exclaimed, her grin wide and welcoming.
Mason chuckled, shrugging lightly. “I was at a bar nearby with some buddies anyway, so figured why not?”
Heather then turned to Noah, her hand slipping into his as she gave it a gentle tug. “Noah, can you come with me for a second? I need a pee buddy,” she said with a wink, swiftly leading him away before the tension could build any further. “Meanwhile, meet my friend Caden, and take a seat inside.” she called back, as she slipped into the bathroom with Noah, leaving the door ajar. Noah could hear the faint sound of polite introductions behind them as Noah closed the door.
“Sorry, Nomo!” Heather began, a bit sheepishly. “Mason snapped me while you and Caden were in the bathroom. He saw we were having a party, and after apologizing for last weekend...” She paused as Noah let out a quiet cough, guilt flashing across his face. “He asked if he could come over. And since you wanted me to handle the party, I assumed it was okay.”
She sighed. “I was going to give you a heads-up when you got back. I didn’t know he was this close.”
“It’s okay, H-Bomb. I just didn’t really expect this. Especially since Caden and I…” Noah trailed off, glancing at himself in the mirror as he fixed his hair.
Heather perched on the toilet, a quizzical look on her face. “Wait, Caden and you what?” This was their usual bathroom ritual during parties—confessions and gossip shared while she took care of business, a quirky tradition that made the moment feel lighter.
Noah hesitated, the words hanging in the air. “We had this moment, you know? I thought something might happen. But then everything with Mason crashed in.”
Heather raised an eyebrow, a smirk spreading across her face. “Ohhh, so there was a moment? Did you kiss?”
“Not like that! We didn’t kiss or anything—just almost,” Noah replied, rolling his eyes but unable to hide a smile.
“Yet,” Heather teased, giving him a playful nudge. “Come on, Nomo, it sounds like you had a little spark going. What are you waiting for?”
“Honestly? I don’t know,” he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. “I’m still trying to figure everything out with Mason, and now this party’s just... overwhelming.”
“Hey, I get it,” she said, her tone shifting to something more supportive. “Just take it one step at a time. Besides, you’ve got me to help you navigate the chaos.”
“True,” he said, feeling a bit lighter. “Just promise to help me if things get weird with Mason.”
“Deal!” she said, standing up and giving him a playful shove as they finished their usual ritual. “Now, let’s get out there and see how much more trouble you can stir up!”
“Very funny,” Noah grimaced as they stepped back into the living room.
As Heather and Noah stepped into the living room, his heart sank a little. Mason was at one end of the couch, casually sprawled with an easy smile, while Caden occupied the other edge, his gaze intent and searching. It felt like a setup, and suddenly the space between them seemed charged with unspoken words.
“You got this,” Heather whispered, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “If you need me, just use our code.” With that, she kissed Noah on the cheek and sauntered off to C.J.'s lap, her laughter mingling with the lively atmosphere of the party.
Noah hesitated for a moment, heart racing, but then took a deep breath and made his way to the couch, feeling the warmth of their smiles urging him forward.
“Hey, Noah! Come sit!” Caden called, waving him over with enthusiasm.
Mason nodded, his expression a blend of warmth and something harder to pin down. “Yeah, we were just talking about the party. Come hang out.”
Noah hesitated, weighing his options. Taking a deep breath, he settled himself between them, feeling the heat radiate from both sides. The couch suddenly felt smaller.

Noah hesitated for a moment, weighing his options. Finally, he took a deep breath and settled himself between them, feeling the heat radiate from both sides. The couch felt smaller now.
“So, Noah,” Caden started, leaning slightly closer, a playful grin spreading across his face. “Do I still have a raincheck for that new moment with you?”
Noah felt his cheeks heat up. “Let’s see,” he replied, attempting to sound casual as he fidgeted with his shirt.
Mason leaned in, having caught only part of Caden’s words, his curiosity piqued. “Rain check? On what?” His turquoise gaze fixed on Noah, quickening his heart.
Noah hesitated, feeling the weight of their attention.
Sensing the shift, Heather jumped in to diffuse the tension. “Okay, okay! Who’s up for a drinking game?” she enthused.
Everyone cheered and eagerly joined Heather’s game, the rules of which no one really knew except her.
The game was chaotic and messy, just like its inventor. The only consistent elements were the shots and sips everyone had to take.
“Mason, you scratched your ear while coughing! Time to pick a ‘Dare note’ or a ‘Truth note,’” Heather announced, her words slightly slurred.
Confused, Mason opted for a ‘Truth note.’ He read it aloud, and the anticipation grew.
“What’s it say?” Heather leaned in, eager for details.
Mason paused, the room hanging on his next words. “When was the last time you had sex, and would you have a round two?”
Noah’s palms grew sweaty, his throat tight.
Then suddenly, Mason answered without hesitation, his tone light. “Last Saturday, and yes. I absolutely would.”
Laughter and applause erupted, but only Noah and Heather understood the implications. All Noah could focus on was her knowing look and the tension hanging over him like a storm cloud.
