Process is Perfection

Hey folks!

I'm back in the saddle after stepping away from my rig for a couple of days. I got my mojo back and work on Prince of Persia continues apace once again! I'm up to 50 pages and the scenes keep coming! ๐Ÿ˜„

There's always a fear in most creators that admitting they need a break will lead to some sort of mass fan-rush for the exits. I am quite surprised to see that I didn't lose a single patron in the days since I posted about my creative block. It seems I've got a solid fanbase, and I am very grateful for this fact. Thank you all - really.

For the final Prince of Persia chapter, I'll still need to dig a week or so into July to complete it. But it'll be well worth the wait!

I've been watching a few documentaries on Jordan Mechner. In fact, Dungeon Chill - one of the best video essayists on retro gaming - covered him last week! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ Check it out! As DC shows, Mechner is one of the most influential developers in the history of gaming and his works are pure works of passion.

What I found most fascinating is that the box art for Prince of Persia almost tanked the original game (see above). It was considered too lewd for store shelves and was hidden by most big retailers. Mechner wrote a fantastic article on how he pushed to have this specific box art as it conveyed the stakes very clearly - lose the game and you lose the girl. Also, there was that risque fate she suffers - the bad guy will get to have his way with your girl.

It seems even in the 80s, there was that whole SJW thing about "moral hazard" and "violence towards women" pearl-clutching going on. Anyways, it's crazy to think that if Mechner didn't come along in the 80s, we might still be stuck with arcade games well into the 90s. He's the father of what we now call the action-adventure genre in gaming!

Well, thanks for reading thus far. I'll be back soon with some sexy previews of the next chapter of Prince of Persia.

And once again - thanks again so much for the support, folks! Cheers!
