Been playing a LOT more UFO 50 since the last post where I had only played Pilot Quest. I've since now at least booted up 25 of the 50 games, and have even beaten some of them. And man... this collection is incredible. As a collection of games, some of them alone could be worth the asking price from the inventiveness of their mechanics (Some of my favorites are Mooncat, Mini & Max, Party House, Mortol, and Rail Heist). You would think that a collection of NES throwbacks would just be simple clones of famous titles, but no, there's an inventive twist in literally every single one (except Combatants, but that's kind of the point).

As a narrative, though... holy shit. Hoooly shit. This genuinely might be one of the most ambitious attempts at story-telling through gaming I have ever seen. I am so deeply engrossed by the history of the fictional game company behind the UFO 50 collection. It's a story told almost entirely through game credits, advertising blurbs, and the themes of the games themselves, teasing you to dig for more and rewarding you SO immensely when you do. This may be one of my favorite stories in gaming, perfectly encapsulating the story of video games themselves. And it's all so easily missable too, being a perfectly enjoyable collection of fun games all on its own. UFO 50 is an incredible creative feat, and I'm both happy that I got to experience and thrilled that there's still 25 more games to play, and the rest I still need to get back to.
