Holy shit, Mario Wonder is so goddamn good. Every second of it is so tightly crafted and charming and fun. I have to force myself to put it down so that I don't just blow through it all in a couple sittings. No, a game like this needs to be SAVORED. It's wild how good it is. It doesn't feel like a cheap retro throwback like the New Super Mario Games or even some pretty fun novelty game. It's more than just a sequel or evolution to Super Mario World. It feels like a game from an alternate universe in which 2D platformer games like these still got AAA levels of budget and design and could stand as a tentpole release for a console.
It's no Pizza Tower, but damn, it's so good. Between this and the Metal Gear Solid collection this week, I'm eating extremely well.
