Tuesday Update 29/04/25
Added 2025-04-30 03:32:13 +0000 UTCWell folks.
Every plan sounds great until battle is joined and meets the enemy, then it goes to shit. And sometimes I'm my own enemy.
I'd been hoping to have WAY more to show for the last week than one chapter of FoF. I ended up needing to rewrite FoF Ch 41 several times to be happy with it, and ALMOST posted it early this afternoon before realizing that I'd written an entire scene without a character in it that needed to be in it.
Oi vey.
Suffice it to say, I thought March was a bad month for getting shit done, but somehow it's got nothin' on April. Jesus, the schedule is screwed up.
So, when a plan goes to shit, what do you do?
Adapt. Overcome.
Make a new plan.
This May I'm going to do something that is perhaps a little zealous - I'm going to double up on everything to cover the April and May releases, without cycling stories in between. What I mean by this is that I'll follow the following schedule...
FoF 38+41 just posted, I'm already partway into 39+42
QTNW 35+38, immediately followed by 36+39
50k words of AMA
Double Sponsored Chapters (Currently LeFrancaisx2, UAx3, OFG, DMDirty20s, Red Flags, with an additional 6 to assign)
It's going to be a LOT of writing. Too much, really. But God damn it I want to get it done and I will.
Other Stuff
Part of the slowdown of everything in terms of writing is also some ongoing emotional blowback from stuff going on with friends and family. My sister is in a good place and safe, but is still struggling. I also have a friend who is now in a pretty hard place, and it turns out I'm the only person he knows who is emotionally available. I'm being careful and trying to make sure I'm taking care of myself amidst all of this, and making sure I have some boundaries up.
Outside of that, CorruptingPower and I heard back from the Writer's Conference we went to last September - I organised and sent in detailed pitches for 7 different presentations we could do for them this year. We both have VERY different careers in publishing and as working authors than almost anybody there last year (and, to be frank and thanks to you folks, were probably in the Top 5 individual earners at the conference - it wasn't exactly filled with Big Names). Well, we heard back and all 7 of our pitches got denied with 0 feedback. I sent out a feeler email just asking if it was because of our content or if I'd messed something up in the process, but it's been crickets for a couple of weeks now.
Oh well. I guess we won't be going to Denver this year. Maybe we'll find a different conference to go to. I hear Vegas has a good one, or maybe one in Canada...
That's all for now I think. I'm already about 1000 words into the next FoF since I started it at the coffee shop a little earlier after finishing the 4th rewrite of the just-posted alpha chapter. Here I go back to it!
Cheers,
~Break.
