Break's Patreon Content Offerings: Main Series #s

Hey folks!

This is a quick poll as I'm working on the two FoF releases. With doing a double release, there's an opportunity for me to do something I haven't done in over a year and that is to expand the number of chapters I'm keeping in Alpha and Beta drafts here on Patreon before they go live elsewhere.

The Current System

When I write a new chapter of FoF or QT:NW, the actual process is that I begin by doing an editing pass on the two Beta Drafts that are already up, and the oldest one gets formatted for release to Literotica. Then I do an editing pass on the current two Alpha drafts, and prep the older one to be released as a Beta draft. Then I write the new chapter, release the new chapter as an Alpha draft, the new Beta draft, and then post the chapter that goes live to Literotica.

This means you all have access to 2 or 4 chapters ahead on the stories depending on your patron tier.

Expanded System

With a double release I could expand the FoF and QT:NW content here on Patreon to 3 Beta Drafts and 3 Alpha Drafts, for a total of 6 chapters ahead of 'live' on Literotica and elsewhere. The upside is that I'm offering potential new patrons more content for signing up. The downside is that I haven't released much content 'live' in the last two months and this would delay an FoF and QT:NW 'live' release another month. (EDIT FOR CLARITY - Only a delay in posting to Literotica, not to Patreon)

The Question

As patrons (and in the mind of a potential patron), is there a difference between hearing there are 4 or 6 early chapters for subscribing?

Thanks all, and Happy Father's Day!

Comments

Nope, no abandonment. I'm writing it right now!

BreaktheBar

I've tried to keep a couple of one-short stories restricted to Patreon, so make sure you check them out if you haven't yet! And thank you!

I appreciate the idea of the lower tier, and I'm always trying to be conscious of the fact that I never want anyone to feel like I rely on them personally/individually to support the patreon. I would MUCH rather someone be taking care of themselves if they are on a limited budget than deprive themselves of anything before spending money supporting me. That being said, even in my slow months I'm generally putting out at least a short novel's worth of content across the different series and stories. I've tried to value the Patreon tiers with that in mind, as well as the fact that the realistic payout of a $1 tier is actually VERY small after the processing fees that get tacked on to each transaction. Financially I am in a safe spot right now, and taking a dramatic risk like a $1 tier that could collapse a system that is currently working right after I move into a new home isn't really looking attractive. Cheers for all of your thoughts, though! New tiers and what they would be priced at or offer are always on my mind, and it's good to know people at least see a benefit of if there was a lower priced tier.

BreaktheBar

I can only write so fast!

BreaktheBar

I'll consider this, but if you've fallen behind doesn't that just mean you have a nice big chunk of content you can read through? Or would you really want a TL;DR and feel like it would be enough?

BreaktheBar

There's about 10k words already written, and another set coming, for the next chapter based on the Sponsor tier! I don't think it will be quite finished, but it will probably be close.

BreaktheBar

In case you missed it, I believe I've clarified the plan going forward in my Response Post to the poll results!

BreaktheBar

Hope you’re not going to abandon the D&D story with this adjustment

With your update and comment I changed my vote to add to thr number a new patron gets. If it doesn't delay anything on our end I don't see much of a downside and it may attract more people. That said, I'll echo what others have mentioned and say release frequency is more important.

I do agree that the all of the support tiers are a high cost as someone who does support multiple authors on Patreon. It seems possible that a lower tier could help bring in new patrons or maybe retain patrons that would otherwise be cancelling. If you wanted to add a benefit for a new tier, you could still release one to Literotica, and have the new lower tier have early access to a single chapter ahead. Just an idea for your consideration, though it won’t impact me directly since I’m too hooked on your stories to reduce my tier level.

I started reading your stories on one of the free sites and I subscribed to keep reading more chapters. I see a benefit in keeping ahead of the free sites. Posting a story or 2 exclusive to Patreon would also be nice. Also congratulation on taking 1st the story contest on CYOA.

I am generally in agreement with Gray ghost. However, the implementation of a good feelings tier may see a number of base tier members drop down initially before any potential gain in numbers would outpace that loss. My main purpose for being a patreon member here is to help support your ability to put out more quality content, all the rest of the perks are bonuses.

From the perspective of a current patron: How far ahead I am compared to a free reader is largely irrelevant because it's invisible to me; I only read your stories here so I have no clue how far behind other sites are and it doesn't make the new chapters come any faster. From the perspective of a prospective patron: Before I signed up I balked twice at the price before I specifically reminded myself I was *not* paying for early access to the stories, but to keep the stories coming by supporting you the author. Radical honesty: I would suspect a $1 tier with no benefits beyond "good feelings knowing you supported my work" (or something similar) would bring in more (and more reliable) income than additional early access chapters. Edit: removed a typo.

Grayghost

Having more drafts here would be nice, but the real limit is how fast you write not how many are WIP. From my perspective you are offering to write 2 additional chapters for us to read now but once I'm caught up again there will be no real change.

theonlylankey1

I want to read the stories. It was slow waiting for Q:NW at Literotica, and then slow after I caught up with the other stories. Alpha fans, Beta fans, Literotica fans - we just appreciate your crafting and evolving stories for us to read, preferably without any level waiting longer.

WSV

If you stay with your current routine beta subscribers would still be delayed?

BAK

I'd keep at 2-4, so the current setup. Honestly, I've fallen so far behind FoF that some sort of season recap just to bring returning readers back up to speed would be welcome. Maybe it's just me, maybe it's more folk than just me?

Kahunabob

I am in complete agreement.

Salvo

Looking forward to new chapters of masseuse and the milf

Virgil

I voted yes, before reading comments, but i have to agree.

Darkflint

I did not understand that. Thank you for clarifying

BAK

Just in case it wasn't clear, the 'delay' I mentioned was in posting to Literotica, not further delays here on Patreon.

BreaktheBar

I joined in May 23, I understand that life occurs. Really like the content however, with the slow output and now potential of further delays maybe time to move on.

BAK

I'm less interested in the number of chapters ahead compared to release frequency. My .02
