October 2023 Update

(A Reminder for everyone, new and veteran, I've been maintaining my Master List post that has all of the latest versions of my chapters and stories linked.)

Hello folks!

So, to kick things off this month, let's just say I'm not a happy camper when it comes to Patreon's latest UI updates. I find some of the changes 'bleh' and others downright 'ugh.' And that 'ugh' comes with all the vitriol of a disgusted teen girl in a 90s comedy. There's nothing I can do about it, so I'm trying to adapt. Of all the annoyances though, the one that bugs me the most is that I cannot clear three notification no matter what I do.

IT IS INFURIATING.

Happy Real Thanksgiving!

And by that I mean I hope you all had a good weekend, because it was Canadian Thanksgiving and I spent my time juggling family events and a 3-day headache. I'm sort of surprised I even got anything done today, let alone polishing off the QT:NW chapters that just went live.

September Recap

So, September ended up being a weird month.

On releases, I think I ended up just shy of hitting the OFG and AMA releases, and I've only now just finished the FoF and QT:NW chapters. We DID get new Le Francais and Growing Affections, and the one-shot Porcelain got released in Beta to all tiers.

Unfortunately I didn't hit the Starship Repo or OFG Compilation goals.

But, we did get two NEW things that I wasn't fully planning at the start of the month, too!

QT: Florida Man isn't going to fit into the writing rotation. It's more of a fun little side-project that I'll write to cleanse my palette and keep writing fun. If you haven't checked it out yet, the goal is to use YOUR Patron-submitted suggestions to direct where the story goes. The more Florida Man the suggestions, the more likely I work them into the next chapter of the story. Chapters will remain small because this isn't supposed to be more than fun, and will only release in other places once there's enough content to make it worthwhile.

Illustrated Novella Test Story; I wasn't expecting it, but we've already started work on the Illustrated Story! After a fantastic suggestion during the Polls from CandidBandit, the story is going to be in 3rd person and feature a married couple who adventure through a Fantasy setting. We'll mostly follow the husband, and now we've got a test chapter to see how the characters might settle in together, what their abilities might be, and to give a framework for the artist to work on.

And on that note, I thought he was going to be too busy with his other work but Bayushi has signed on to do the Illustrated Novella. He's going to use a slightly different art style for the novella to keep it distinct from the Character References we do monthly. I've also been speaking with another artist about a potential 2nd illustrated novella project, but they are very busy so that project is very much a slow simmer.

Now, all of that being said, September WAS a weird month for the Patreon. First, I'm still wrapping up the final designs for Leia with Bayushi for the September Character Art release, but it's coming with a bonus so the delay is understandable.

Second, monetarily we reached my behind-the-scenes growth goal, but Membership wise we pretty much plateaued. Throughout the month there were a lot of folks joining, but an equal number of folks leaving the Patreon, and while I absolutely do not begrudge anyone their choice to support or leave on any given month, I was definitely a little discouraged and dealing with a bit of added stress. I've got some work to do!

October Plans

I've got a lot going on this month and am looking forward to pushing out the content. Before that can happen though, I need to dedicate a bit of time to some Fall Cleaning.

SHORT TERM GOALS (the next week)

- Convert all Patreon posts to use the new Collections system

- At least one OFG Compiled collection needs to get done (the posting over on StoriesOnline has stalled out because I ran out of edited content)

- Le Francais and Unexpected Affection commissions

- One OFG release

REST OF MONTH GOALS

- Finalize Leia character art release (and start October art)

- Double AMA release, at least one more OFG release

- FoF and QT:NW chapters

- An AMA compiled collection

I'll also be working on the Illustrated Novella project in the background, along with more editing for the All 4 1 Harem Anthology project.

That's all for now I think - I'm trying to keep myself at least a little more brief with this recap so I can get back to the work that needs doing and setting reasonable expectations for myself. Am I being reasonable? I guess we'll find out.
