Accents are wild things, especially when you start dealing with mixed accents and regional accents. I, personally, am fascinated by them and how people can gain/lose them. Not all characters will be right about everything though! Really interesting to hear about your own experiences - I wish I'd had French teachers here in Canada that had bothered to learn proper Quebecois accents before trying to teach us French.

BTB: I was born in the heart of Texas (San Antonio, had several friends who were Mexican , and learned some Spanish from them. When we moved to Southern California, where I attended school from 5th grade through college, I had many more Mexicano friends and classmates, most of whom spoke English at school, Spanish at home, and "Spanglish among themselves. They mostly had a distinct Spanish lilt to their speech. My college roommate (surname Candalaria) and one of my good friends (surname Gaxiola) both had recognizable, Spanish accents, though spoke very good English as well. So, I have to disagree with Toni a little bit. It depends on the individual and how much effort they put into speaking "accentless" English. I can usually detect even a little Spanish accent, mostly by the "lilt" or "music" in their speech patterns. The 3rd year Spanish teacher (a S . Hernandez) at our school even worked with us gringos to try to get us to speak with that pattern. Personalamente, me gusto much el accent de Los latinx....

Hey Tony, welcome! This is a great point, and the differences between immigration stories are really interesting to delve into. With Amara, I'm laying some foundations for later on in the story if she comes back around - we only got a taste of her backstory here in Chapter 15. A lot of the near-cameo characters in FoF (and my other stories) end up with backstory elements that we aren't seeing on the page yet - Amara is one of those characters at the moment because what woman tells her life story to the couple she picks up at the bar for a one-night stand?

Hi Break, great story, I just became a patron so I could get more of this story. I have a comment about the Amara character, though. If she was born in the United States, she would speak English without any kind of Spanish accent. If you want the Spanish accent and for her to start speaking Spanish in the heat of passion, then she should be the kind of person who came to the United States when she was, say, 10 years old. I have a little expertise in this because my father had Cuban parents and was born in the US. He spoke American English with no accent.

Yet another great entry! I am really enjoying the expanding mystical world. Can’t wait for a deeper dive.

I love "Vicky" and the comic wrench he is throwing in the mix. Can't wait to see how that develops and it sounds like he is going to stretch Jerry and help him grow a little :)
