Blender Image Displacement Modifier

I have been experimenting with geometry nodes to develop a triplanar displacement modifier for black-and-white images. This setup is most effective with tileable black and white PNG images, though it can also be applied to non-tileable images like logos. The primary advantage is the ability to easily add various types of three-dimensional displacement textures to models, making it highly suitable for 3D printed objects.

For additional information, refer to the video provided. While this demo video shows it applied to only a cube, you can use it on any object of any shape because it is triplanar protected.

You'll notice I used this geometry node setup as a modifier and if you want to do the same, you'll need to configure the blend file below as part of your asset browser. Check out this link to how I did this with the slice modifier. http://cw1.me/slice

I am also working on other 3D printable tools and will let you know when they become available.

Great Jerry, glad your enjoying it!

I'm getting ready to start playing with this, and was wondering if there was a way to confine this to something like a vert group? I've been learning how to use displacement to make 3D printable terrain, but this opens up so many other options. It would be cool to only have a set number of faces impacted by the mesh density to make it easier to work with. I do need to note that I'm asking this question in advance of playing with this, so it might already have a way to handle this. :)

This is pretty exciting. I'm only a few months into Blender (after several years of resin printing), and I'm hoping to become proficient at modeling for 3D printing. I've been trying to use displacement to get patterns into surfaces for a while now and. while I've had some success, this looks like exactly what I've been needing. Thank you. I look forward to seeing the rest of your 3D tools when they are ready.
