UPDATED TO V1.0.2 Adds alignment by origin as well as the existing bounding box
I've been thinking about this one for awhile. Aligning objects in Blender has always been a hassle-- mostly because of 3D coordinates. Most often the viewport doesn't match your internal understanding of what's going to happen, so you just keep pressing buttons until you get it right.
I thought I'd try a different interface-- one that aligns the view with the align and distribute controls. The idea being you typically think in H and V, not X,Y and Z. Anyway check out the video and the addon. It's very small, sits in the Tool tray (N-panel>Tool) and works based on the last selected (called the active) object. Let me know if this interface works for you. Here's the addon. Just drag drop the zip file in Blender 4.3+
