So, I saw this reddit post about how to model this image of a carving.

Step one was to straighten it out and crop it in photoshop.

Step two was to create a displacement map in https://www.sculptok.com/imageGenerator

And then use it as a displacement map in Blender to generate a mesh. The final has less than 100K tris.
