Slice and Bend Objects

One of the stranger lack of features in Blender, is the inability to "slice" an object. By "slice" I mean to add evenly spaced cuts throughout the object in one dimension only. Funny how Lightwave had this feature over 30 years ago, and Blender still doesn't.

There are so many reasons to want to do this, and one being bending the object. There's just no way to do it easily without an addon. I talked with Jerry about this (Hard Ops developer) and he added it to Hard Ops, so that's one way of doing it. But, for me, I wanted a way to do it natively-- so I ended up creating this video showing you how to do it. I also go through a simple bending process (another very confusing aspect of Blender) as well as applying the brushed metal materials I recently shared.

Hope it helps.

oh nice! And I was in no way suggesting you were stepping on Jerry's toes - I just wanted to verify if Dice was the same thing, since I also own HardOps. Thanks again!

Yup. He called it Dice. It's a function that's been a part of many other modelers but for some reason never made it to Blender. Not sure why. Lightwave, which I used in the past, had a feature called Slice and that's what I was telling Jerry about. Since it was my idea (or really Lightwave),, he has no issue with me releasing a version of it.

Very cool - thank you! When you say you talked with Jerry and he added it to HardOps, are you referring to the Dice function? That's been in there a while, no?
