Hey everyone,
I want to spend some time talking about design specific workflows. So let me give you an example. We're working on a brand-new version of SYNTH which has something called hard points, it will also be in KIT OPS Pro as well. And what it is is basically connection points for inserts. So for instance if you are creating a train you would have connection points in between the cars and the engine would be the original target object with only one connection (hard) point and that being the one on the back and conversely the caboose would only have one connection (hard) point and that being on its front.
So one of the first things I want to create is a recipe for generating lots of different designs for different workstations. And to do this, I will need a lot of different objects that are similar in look and feel yet very different in terms of their function. For instance, there will be a monitor and it will connect to either a hinge point or stand and that will connect to a keyboard and that will connect to a device is on the left and the monitor will have devices on the top and on the left as well. So, lots of different stuff connected to lots of other different stuff.
That's a lot of things to design, so I ran across one of the folks on my discord who has just started creating insert KPACKS. His name was Brunya, and he's a dancer from Latvia. I knew I was going to have to teach him about design and especially about how to model a specific design, so I wanted to create a specified workflow for him to work with.
First I needed to teach him about design and I used sketchtogether.com to collaboratively help him come up to speed on what I was looking for. I'll attach a picture to this post. And before even working on the sketches, I asked him to put together a mood board on Google slides which you can see here:
Once he was comfortable with the 2D sketching, I continually added new components for him to design. And, I knew that next I would need to come up with a workflow which could interpret these designs into something that we could use.
So, what I did was create this video to communicate to him, and others as well, how I believe we can quickly model many different components and iterations for the new SYNTH product.
I've also enclosed the actual object that I created if any of you are interested in taking a look at it or using it in anything, you're welcome. Just drop these two files into any of your master folders and you can add it as a KIT OPS INSERT.
