Simple Concept

Hey guys, there's this new addon called SIMPLY CONCEPT and it's just amazing. I particular like the fact you can work with it in non-destructive mode, so you can get things "just right" before committing it to a final mesh. It's all about ITERATION :-D

So, yeah, I do get a commission if you buy this, but that's NOT the reason I did this. I *rarely* add any tools to my pipeline, and pretty much try and keep things as lean as possible, but this guy now lives in my N panel. I was so impressed, I contacted the developer and he asked me to do a video.

So, one of the big issues with hard surface modeling, is that it's so *GEOMETRIC* and as such can become redundant and boring. I think this product can help you create pleasing shapes, which can then become housings for new products, which when detailed with typical hard surface modeling, creates a very nice juxtaposition of design details.

I'll of course want to show this in another video.

For those interested, here's the file that rendered the image in the video.

I get a lot of errors running Simply Concept v1.1 in Blender 2.93. Going to have to reach out to the devs. Anyone else get the same?

That’s cool and convenient, looking forward to the DM set more still... Thanks once again.

Thanks Chipp, your method in combination with this toopl is pretty helpful!

Hi Dewi, thanks for the kind words. I've been working on this product for awhile, and it will ship with my DESIGN MAGIC set. It was fun creating it: https://youtu.be/tk1vrsI2WDY

That’s great, thanks. I had a play with the above method and did some tweaking of the separate shapes in edit mode and I can see clearly what you mean about the iterations, it’s competes with bashing out symmetrical silhouettes in Procreate. How does quad remesher handle these forms, do you lose the vowel ‘resolution’ and get a polished result? My trial period expired before I really tested it but this could be a decent workflow for me to apply it to. Thanks again for your inspiring work.

...And then adding a smooth modifier. The big difference, and one I neglected to mention in my video, is the iterative nature of this. With careful and continuous positioning of these meta-objects the user is able to fine-tune the final mata-shape. For designers, this is a huge help in quickly evaluating and refining the design.

Is this superior to blocking out, then joining any separate objects, and remeshing?
