K-Cycles: Just ridiculous

Wow.

Just WOW! Eric Klein shared with me his years long work optimizing Cycles for SPEED and ease of use, and OH... MY... GOSH...

It's seriously fast-- fast enough that I'm now considering using Cycles for many of my renders! Crazy fast. Of course it's a custom build of Blender, but a lot of us (including the Hard Ops and Boxcutter folks) have banged on it and it's ROCK SOLID. And of course all of our addons, including KIT OPS, SYNTH, etc. work fine as well.

Check out the vid above to see it in action.

And if you want to learn more about it including how ridiculously low in price it costs ($49), check it out at:

See you all online!

K-Cycles: Just ridiculous

Comments

No, but it IS faster (ATM)

Chipp Walters

I wonder if it's as ridiculously low in price as the free Cycles X?

Tim Whiteman

My concern was mainly that I suspect maintaining a custom version of Blender will be significantly more effort over time than maintaining an addon. Plus: customers will expect getting Blender updates even if there are no updates in the customization itself.

Tilman Sommer

Yeah. Check the graphs at https://blendermarket.com/products/k-cycles?ref=295

Chipp Walters

NM. Sorry, just read through the youtube comments and the answers are in there.

Jon White

Any comparisons to E-Cycles? I've had my eye on that (quite pricey). Some really good reviews...also a very fast render. Just curious. Thanks!

Jon White

Yes, that's a good point. But that's the case for even addons you use frequently. Stuff like Hard Ops, Boxcutter, KIT OPS need to have a "continuity of business" in order to be taken seriously. That only happens with time and performance.

Chipp Walters

Thanks for sharing. But since it is a custom version of Blender, one needs to keep in mind that maintenance of that version for all or specific platforms might stop at any time at the discretion of the (single?) maintainer. Maybe an idea to solve this could be to raise funds within the Blender community as compensation for Kevin's work and merge it into Blender trunk - or something along those lines.

Tilman Sommer

Thanks, Chipp!

Kevin Wimberly

Same answer as above.

Chipp Walters

If enough people ask the author for it, he said he'd consider creating a Linux build too.

Chipp Walters

And a Mac OS File?

Sjon Ueckert

I just about purchased, however it seems it's only supported on Windows? Any idea if that's the case, or does it have a Linux file too?
