On May 28, I attended the first Private Room since pre-pandemic times, Private Room #33.

In case you're unfamiliar with the concept, Private Room (PR for short) is a series of events organized for Angel Philia doll owners.

I only know a little about previous events, but I want to tell you as much as possible about PR33.

Sales

There were many just-released items available for purchase directly at the event. It's important to remember to bring cash to doll events because it's unlikely that cards will be accepted.

At PR33, there were some AP body parts, wigs, clothes, shoes, and accessories. However, no dolls.

I got a new oppai, a set of three hand parts (with painted nails), one pair of shoes, some outfits and a bag of hair clips. AP shopping and try-on haul photos are coming soon!

Many items were limited in quantity, and that's where the queue plays its role. If you enter the venue first, you can grab the goodies you want to buy before they're sold out.

Lottery sale

Besides regular items, two One Selection Dolls (or OSD) were in a lottery sale. OSD means OOAK, unique coord models. They come with complete outfits. Both dolls were just below 100,000 yen.

Each visitor got a sale lottery ticket for each of the two OSD dolls, and if you wanted to participate, you would put your ticket in the box (or boxes if you wanted both). At the end of the event, lucky winners had a chance to buy the dolls.

Gift lottery

In addition to the sale lottery, there was also another one with two gift packs. Your queue number was also your lottery number.

Future product showcase & sign-ups

Some pre-production samples of future products were on display, and you could also leave your email to get first dibs on them. It's basically an additional perk for the event attendees. Pretty clever if you ask me.

Doll owners' meet-up

Of course, you're not going to spend that much time shopping, so the rest of the event is a doll owners' meet-up. Many people brought their Angel Philia dolls with them. There were tables prepared where everyone could put their dolls on display, take pictures, chat, etc. Very good opportunity to meet new people. However, the language barrier is real, and people speaking English are an exception. To fully enjoy and take advantage of this part of the event, you must speak at least conversational Japanese.

When it comes to dolls, there was a lot of not-so-typical stuff going on, as you can see in the pictures.

Photo booth with a pro photographer

At PR33, there was also a professional photographer with a photo booth for dolls, and you could have really nice pictures of your dolls taken for free. Being a not-that-horrible photographer myself, I was surprised how many people were interested in this service, but I quickly understood why. Just a few of the collectors had proper photo gear. Some people were taking pics with flip-phones and point-and-shoot cameras (the kind that went extinct 10+ years ago).

Useful tips / things to know

As mentioned before, always bring cash to this kind of event.
Entering the venue is a bit complicated.
- When you first arrive, you get a queue ticket with a number; the earlier you arrive, the lower the number
- Half an hour before the door opening, the queue is formed, and your place in the line is determined by the number on your ticket
- You pay for the entrance at the door. The fee was 1,000 yen, but I got a souvenir hotel room key.
The transparent plastic tote you get at the entrance is the shopping bag.
Despite photography of the venue being prohibited, it was actually OK to take pictures of the dolls. I wasn't sure about it, so I didn't bring my camera, and unfortunately, all photos are from my phone. Just try not to have other people's faces in the pictures.
Bring your AP doll with you! My Elle stayed at home, and in hindsight, I should have taken her with me to Japan just for this. It would have been so much easier to fit in if I had her with me at the event.
