(DISCUSSION POST) Aka Jintan NEEDS your help

Okay I'm literally abusing my Patreon powers in where a character limit doesn't exist unlike how batshit useless Twitter is for actual discussions.

This is going to be a really long post, but I'm literally on my hands and knees begging for you to give me your attention and opinion on this, it's like mommy coming to her 5 year old daughter, completely fucked up and drunk and asking her daughter for help on doing the taxes. It's insane, confusing, and a little bit scary!

I'm actually asking you, YES YOU. YOU READING THIS. For your advice on this shit. Yes I VALUE YOUR OPINION. TELL ME!!!!!

So I'm presenting my issues to you, let me explain. So Style A is something I literally came up with this week and it was an inspiration of seeing people do basically bust-shots of charms, you can see this one that directly inspired me making my own cinnamoroll Miku. I thought that it was so cute that I wanted to try something like that too!!!!! But here's the second part of the issue.

Every single fucking charm I've made to date (which is like I'm not even shitting you like 59+ charm designs) are of style C.
Style C is my longest-to-date charm style that I've basically been rendering since 2021. So of course all of my stuff would be of that style. It's KIND OF TOUGH? Because I go to conventions and going to conventions they want you to have a lot of stock for a lot of different characters, so it'd be hard for me to discontinue a whole bunch of them right off the bat. But recently I've really been getting into a fondness of Style B. I'm not going to lie to you, I'm going to spread my palms out and show you the magic and admit it to you. Style C has a much easier base to work with. It essentially works with the basic bases and you just switch around a little bit of the anatomy to work with. Style B is more elaborate and you have to really think about the anatomy of a chibi in order to make it work out nicer, it's going to be kinda boring for them all to be standing statically. But even so, I think that people like Style C just fine - I mean shit, it's kind of a classic at this point, you know? There's been so many different characters made in that style that at this point it works and it's basically shown to have work.

But hey, why would we strive for basic if it's God telling Einstein that the lightbulb can potentially be better than the stick that he's burning every night, right?

But here's the issue, people like different things!!!!! So I'm sitting here wondering, good lord: so people like style A, style B and style C. Well then. What do?

And that's the disaster. I don't have a god damn clue! I like all of them!

Here's my pro and con list for all of them:

STYLE A (Bust-up)

STYLE B (Chibi - 2023)

STYLE C (Chibi - 2021~2022)

So in this way, my issue is being presented:

I kind of like all styles for all sorts of reasons, but I'm wondering if it's spreading my net way too wide and if it's going to create issues down the line in terms of consistency or what I'm able to offer in terms of consumerism. A lot of the times I do wonder if it's bad to have such a large variety of styles across so many different variations of series, because what if this certain character (say Bocchi for example) would have been better made for a chibi? And I made her into a bust-up? Or should I just make 2 of the same character? And if I make a "SET" like CSM, what if Makima is better made as a bust-up and Power is better made as Style B and Denji is better made as Style C? It doesn't make sense! So set's have to be done in a certain style so that it makes sense...

Is it weird to have like a store with so many different styles? Or what if you saw this at a convention? Would you be disappointed to see a favorite character in a style that's different than what you wanted? (Eg: seeing idk Sumire as a chibi when you wanted her as a bust-up) I'm just wondering if I'm offering too much and confusing myself because at this point I literally wouldn't know which character would be suited for which style since at this point I'm making too many varieties.

I'm not really super well-versed in the art of drawing or what's behind it, do take my opinion with a grain of salt, but personally I see no issue with having a mix of all styles being displayed. I think I personally like A and B more, since they feel like they bring out more of your art style, but if C is easier to make I see no problem with that being in the mix too. Also, I wouldn't worry too much about how 'random' the bust-up idea is. It looks lovely, like part of one of your full pieces, just smaller. I see no issue with that at all.

Kind of agree with everyone elses general thought that you stick with A 100%. If you enjoy B more I would say just do that over C, but if C really is a lot easier to do it obviously means more potential money and can be hard to look past lol. If it's reasonable to be able to do a full stock of A and B style ones I would definitely just do that. If not and business success is a major concern maybe do the major A and B ones you want to do and use C as a way to quickly fill in the last of your stock(assuming thats possible). For what its worth I don't think most people find it weird to see different types of charms/merchandise. On the topic of someone seeing a character in B but wanting in C, or C to B, or etc. I don't think the difference is major enough to make or break between C or B to affect a sale. If they like chibis, your overall art style and/or the character the style of chibi probably isnt a deciding factor. I could see A to B/C or vice versa potentially being a deal breaker but the difference is so fundamental between the designs that the problem can't really be solved outside of every character you make in one style you make in another. Which I'm assuming throws its own issues into the mix. And if you stick to only one type A or B/C to prevent that you would lose potential sales to the other types fans anyway so its not really a hypothetical that matters in the end. Obviously take this advice with a grain of salt as I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. I hope it was somewhat helpful at least and sorry for the essay lol.
