The Witch of Kurikuto #2 pXX

A couple people wondered why I didn't show the ball hitting Saki, and at first I was like, I don't want to do something that gruesome, I don't know if I could do it justice in my art, etc, but it kinda came across as abrupt when I just moved past it. Well, I had a thought of how to depict it. This will probably renumber the pages, since I'm posting this one on the RGS site... right now!
Great solution in my opinion. I love the graphic (style wise) nature of it!

Eh, that's not graphic at all. Looks pretty cool, in fact. Like a stylized special ko screen from a fighting game.

Yup. But the ball was traveling at such speed that her own arms were bent backwards and hit her muzzle. Had not been for them to absorb a modicum of kinetic energy, Saki's neck would've broken.

I thought Saki had her hands in front of her face in a blocking action.

This was a good way to show it. Let’s the imagination work to make it worse.

it's an elegant way of showing it

+1 on 29.5. I already assumed the not seeing it at first, and at second, was an intentional part of how it was being built up and I love what that did for the impact.

This is a fantastic way of depicting it. Definitely worth renumbering the pages to slot this in, it does a fantastic job of showing the violence of the impact, without being graphic.

Oof, she’s going to have a lot of blue in her complexion.

I know you mention the ball hitting her (a page 28.5 if you will) but personally I imagine it more powerful as a 29.5. Im seeing this like an aftershot of her body laying on the sand motionless. There's something powerful about not showing the impact, just the destruction it caused.
i dunno just a thought, either way the monochrome is a beautiful way to do it

Very artfully done. The pure black and white really sells it.

Is this silhouette meant to be the moment after the ball hit saki, or her lying on the ground afterwards with the ball off to the side?

for some reason this piece is remarkably stunning. The silhouette makes the moment feel like it has significant gravity.
