He's also trying to use trustbonding, which from the name alone sounds rather intimate, to try and control her, to change her to be more like what other people want her to be. That's a massive dick move regardless of if he think's he's "helping" her.

Eh. He thinks he's doing the right thing. He's been raised in a society that believes... whatever the family was doing is evil. He sees her as someone freed from a cult, but who still refuses to let go of the beliefs. In his mind, he's reaching out to try and help her break free.

If he could make an ally she would be very useful. I suspect her side is still active in covert status. He could gain rank if he could turn her into revealing the rest. I don’t think she was the only survivor of that purge….but she does know where they are

I think the new heavy shading came in right when you needed it.
Hell I recall you were nervous about the style change mid-comic, but it feels appropriate to me for the shadows to darken during this scene of heightened conflict.
