Extraordinary Attorney Woo Episode 8

This episode delivers some of the series' most emotionally intense and pivotal moments yet. Young-Woo grapples with the revelation that her father used his connection with Hanbada's CEO to help secure her position at the firm. Matters are only made worse when Kwon anonymously exposes this information to the entire company, leaving Young-Woo feeling alienated and betrayed.

As the team continues to work on the contentious highway construction case, Taesan’s lawyers gain an apparent advantage, throwing Hanbada into a scramble. Soo-Mi, impressed by Young-Woo’s previous success against her firm, makes a surprising offer to lure Young-Woo to Taesan, presenting an escape from the increasingly tense atmosphere at Hanbada.

The emotional stakes rise further when Young-Woo returns home to retrieve more belongings, only to have her father attempt to bridge the growing rift between them. However, his desperation leads to the revelation of yet another life-altering secret, sending Young-Woo into a spiral of shock and uncertainty.

This episode masterfully explores themes of trust, betrayal, and self-discovery, setting the stage for even more gripping developments to come.

I love that you can have conversations even if you disagree. I think one of the wonderful things about this show is how thought provoking it is and how it prompts conversations about difficult topics. I personally don't have anyone who will watch K dramas with me and so am only left with my own thoughts and opinions. Part of my love for reaction videos is to hear other points of view

Thank you for this. I love the way you've articulated what was going on here. I think the fact that this show is willing to address things like this is a huge factor in why it's so amazing

This is a little late haha and you’ve gotten further into the series by now but I found that discussion you had at the end to be great - I love seeing the way you two communicate with eachother wether in agreement or not, it’s inspiring. I didn’t feel emotionally connected to Tae Sumi’s character at all but when this reveal of her not wanting to have had Youngwoo in the first place came out, I understood her decision to not even try to find her or look for her. She was intending on doing the sensible thing but ultimately didn’t and I’m thankful for that haha, Youngwoo’s awesome but even so, I did feel very sympathetic towards the situation that a much younger Sumi had to go through. I agree that I think she loved Youngwoo’s dad a lot - for her to carry a child she wouldn’t have any involvement with to term when she didn’t have to put herself through that emotional and physical trauma. Plus, not to sound dramatic but pregnancy and childbirth is dangerous! We look at it through the rose coloured lenses of modern medicine but it very much still could be fatal. The weight of that is what strongly determines my stance on this issue. It’s also my assumption that should this scenario have occurred post graduation, with both of them having secured a career, things may have gone differently. I truly think this is a classic case of ‘young and dumb’ for both of them having made choices out of love rather than reason and unfortunately it’s Youngwoo who’ll bear the brunt of both their decisions. I still look on Youngwoo’s dad favourably even though he did give me the ick this episode lol with this strange baby trapping-esque manoeuvre 😂 I can forgive him slightly because I know it’s cause he loved and loves Youngwoo. I 100% agree though that he seems very preoccupied with his personal losses and I think it’s because in his mind, he believes she never truly loved him. I think he thought that by making that proposition to her, she’d either a) prove her love by having the child and raising it with him or b) prove she didn’t love him by aborting the child and pretending their bond never happened. It’s this weird in between option that he came up with all on his own that’s got him baffled now. I think he doesn’t understand Sumi’s motivation behind abandoning them and chalks it up to her ambition to climb as high as possible. Which I don’t know, is probably also true but it’s far too simplistic for such a nuanced decision. I don’t know how much of this is even meaningful to share lol but it sparked up all those old feelings rewatching this with you. Can’t wait to catch up on your uploads!

I think the acting in the scene when Woo Youngwoo reveals to the mom who she is is so good. Both actresses killed it. That gradual change in the mom's facial expression as it hits her!

I thought the discussion at the end was just fine. And while I felt the same way Kerry did, I can also understand some of the things Simon was feeling strongly about. I was going to say more but I can’t remember if the things I wanted to say are based around what my feelings were at the time or now that I know more so I won’t say them for now just in case. Really enjoyed getting back into this one!

Thank for the disclaimer at the beginning, Simon. I was very curious so I tuned until the end actually. Sorry in advance for this long comment. Firstly, I want to say that please always feel free to have discussions in the end as needed. It's very much okay to express your thoughts properly, even if you disagree on some things. Going forward, there may be more topics that would offer conflicting opinions which I look forward to hear your stand. Next, please know that when this episode was released, there was a heated conversation among viewers, if Tae Sumi did wrong and should be blamed. And if it was rightful for Young Woo's father to push Tae Sumi in giving birth even if she already expressed ahe didn't want to. So I could say your discussion was expected and it's not unwelcomed or disturbing in any case. Lastly, I thought of how I can share my thoughts without really giving any spoiler. I tried to remember how I thought and felt when I first watched this episode itself... I did understand Tae Sumi but I didn't felt any pity with her. And I admired how Young Woo handled every truth that was thrown on her. I agree with Simon that as Tae Sumi was clear she didn't want to go through the pregnancy (and I'm sure with her stance they both know it beforehand that Tae Sumi wouldn't want to), it was on Young Woo's father for pushing and begging that she goes through it and eventually this ill fate happened. I disagree though that he told the story masking himself as a hero. He clearly said to Young Woo that there was a 'political' reason why Tae Sumi couldn't marry him and it wasn't because she hated them. But I really like the point you made that his main worry at that moment in the hospital shouldn't be about how he should have a better professional career, and instead should be about how all the newly revealed facts are affecting Young Woo. Shall I say... Simon, I'm actually glad to hear everything you said here. As a man and a father. I could see again how much respect you have for women and care for children. The strongest one though that impacted me before was what Kerry pointed out. Maybe it's coming from you being a mother yourself that's why it stood out for you too. I just really couldn't imagine having given birth to someone and yet not knowing anything about her until then. I'd understand a few years... but for 20+ years? Not even knowing her name. She truly erased her child in her life. Maybe I could argue with myself that it's because, again, she was clearly not wanting to go through the pregnancy but she still did for the sake of the guy she loved and she would be only able to move on if she forget everything afterwards... Unfortunately, I'm not that ambitious and I'm an emotional person to emphatize with her.
