Gosh I forget how infuriating the kexols were in this episode and during this time (and maybe even now), till I rewatch this again. EXO deserves so much and definitely not to be lonely

UminSoMuchToMe

We need EXO seriously 🥲

Katie Ahn

YES PLEEEEEASE REACT TO EXO ON THOSE TWO SHOWS!!!!!!!!! You’ll love the format, very old school style chat shows. And the vocals are totally raw so so good

Manchego Babi

Yes I think that's the issue exactly SM doesn't protect them and the situation with Chen could have gone the same way. It feels like they just wait to see if the member can handle the hate with no care for them.

RachelLB

Chen stayed because it was his and his members choice for him to stay. Sungmin left/stayed on hiatus by choice because the backlash was too much when he was going to come back for black suit. (The original intention by the company was actually for him to rejoin at that time). SM doesnt kick people out for dating like other companies do, but they dont protect their artists from the hate at all which leads them to either deal with it like chen or leave like sungmin.

Tina

Absolutely the same, how we were lucky and managed to not lose Chen I will forever be thankful for ❤️

RachelLB

i agree with you 100%. it definitely depends on the company. YG has always been seemingly less controlling of their artists dating lives. fandoms like blinks and vips also seem to be supportive when it comes to their idols dating. (except for when it’s jennie for some odd reason). SM is just notoriously known for not protecting their idols and giving the fans what they want in order to not face criticism. we’ve seen it time and time again with examples like super junior’s sungmin who is still on hiatus, lucas who left nct, karina who was forced to apologize, and seunghan who was removed from riize. looking back i’m honestly shocked but also grateful that this wasn’t the case with Chen.

Destiny Huitzache

So true. I also appreciate JYP's questions. They weren’t generic, they were personal, and EXO were able share their own thoughts and feelings. There aren't many opportunities for them to be asked something serious like this. We usually see idols being goofy and funny, but this was different.

sp

With the dating, I also think the agency is a massive part of how the fans will react. SM has a paticularly horrible record of the company supporting their artists, a member of Super Junior in 2013 went on a hiatus (still to this day) as he wanted to get married. Fans actually bought shares in SM to try to force his removal. YG tends to be more chilled ... the only proper extreme backlash I can think of is Jennie dating Kai, otherwise (please correct me) I can't think of another serious example. Many YG idols have been much more open about having relationships (so i feel like any dating news is/was blown over pretty quick) and the companies response to dating queries from the press is pretty legendary, when asked about Jennie and Kai their response was “SM entertainment will release an official statement.” But it's just so sad to see it to this level. I mean its not like it only happens in Kpop western celebrities get hate as well for dating but I dunno it feels less organised if that makes sense.

RachelLB

to answer your question simon, yes. it is very true that many people will not only walk away, but go as far as to hate on an idol/group for dating. it come from companies marketing their idols as “available” to the fans so they seem more “appealing”. it creates this narrative that fans have a chance with these idols. which is why they get so upset when that’s not the case. it is a very weird parasocial relationship that these fans have built with their idols and it is very extreme. it’s not that these idols wanna repay their fans by not dating, it’s that they are quite literally FORCED to not date. and if they do, it has to be kept extremely private so fans don’t find out. its one thing to love your idol and wanna protect them, but it’s another thing to control them and expect them to cater to you in every aspect of their public and personal life. this is not normal. an idol can have a relationship and still be extremely and eternally grateful for their fans. baekhyun and taeyeon both got so much hate when kfans found out they were dating. taeyeon was literally tracked down at the airport and forced to apologize on camera. not sure if you know this but kai and jennie were in a relationship back in 2018/19, and when fans found out they got so much hate to where they decided to end the relationship. jennie got and still gets hate to this day because of it. that’s another issue in kpop, when idols date, it’s usually the female idol who gets majority, if not most, of the hate. simply because these crazy fans can not fathom that their idol chose another person over them. karina from aespa had a dating scandal of her own and was forced to apologize. and then i’m sure you’ve heard of seunghan from riize. he was put on hiatus and when it was said he would come back, “fans” sent death wreaths outside of the SM building as a protest to kick him out. and shortly after he left the group. all because of some leaked photos of him and his ex girlfriend from before his debut. this is how deep and extreme dating is handled in korea. however i will say, this isn’t all fans of course. but still, every fandom has those fans who are against dating. and sadly i don’t think there will be a point where it changes. allowing public relationships in k-pop may not affect anything internationally, but it will very much domestically. and if we learned anything from the seunghan and riize situation is that, these companies care a lot more about the opinions of domestic fans rather than international fans. no one outside of korea cared about seunghan having a life outside of being an idol. no one except korean fans, and in the end they got what they wanted, which was for seunghan to leave riize. and SM allowed that to happen. which is why these “fans” think they have the right to control their idols’ life, because the company validates it.

Destiny Huitzache

I loved the discussion at the end. I hope EXO (and kpop idols in general) get to live their life to the fullest. It's honestly sad to watch some parts of this

Mirella Kaori Ramirez Hanechi

Yesss this is the order they stand on tour during their ment since debut. If Chansoo aren’t on the far left then it just feels wrong. 😂

doribo

I'm glad you reacted to this! Brings back memories. The order they were sitting for Boomerang is actually the order they always stand in. Lay is between D.O. and Kai. So even in concerts, you'll see them usually stand in this same exact order when they're doing their ments.

hc0311

I've been their fan since the beginning but we don't have the right as a fan to say what they shouldn't do in their personal lives. as a fan of them we should also know how far our limits are. they didn't force us to be their fans just to make them feel indebted to us. it's our decision to be their fan so for me they shouldn't feel like they owe us because they are the reason why we are happy to see that they are still intact and making new songs for us and to see they are happy in what they are doing, that is enough compensation for our love and support for them. They are already doing their obligation to us as idols by giving new performances, fan service and new songs whether it's solo or group. And I hope they find their true happiness. I hope we can be happy with whatever decision they make in their personal lives. I am excited to be able to see their children in the future, our nieces and nephews. Haha. seeing them happy, I'm happy too. I hope all the toxic mindsets of those who are not their true fans will disappear.

Michelle Yanos

being a fan of western artists and following exo in particularly i feel like kpop fans have a hard time understanding that yes this is their job and they should "act up" the love people gave them BUT the thing we see from the outside as a "hobby" is a HUGE part of their lives and as fans our only goal should be to support them the best way we can in this type of relationship that chen described very well. This type of entitled fans is so sad to watch and i feel so sorry for the idols

anabyana

i always feel a bit uncomfortable watching this. baek had already been harassed by fans for his relationship and forced to break up by this point, and their fans are making light of that subject like they didnt just hurt baek that much. it would be fine if it was truly joking but those fans actually do want them to be lonely and most of them go on to hate chen for having a family a few years later, its just a little hard to watch those parts

Tina

I enjoyed watching this with you! The fans protesting the idea of them having partners is very sad though, especially in this context where they are unusually open about their feelings. Suho literally sings a song he says he relates to called "I want to fall in love" and the lyrics are "my life is great but I'm so lonely" !! I hope they just live their personal lives how they want.

Lulu W

love your pfp😭😂

elvenhils

finally EXO is here

Nosoy Sisoy

You gotta give it to JYP. He really asks the best questions, and somehow got EXO to be vulnerable on cam. This is really one of the rarest instances where you see Kyungsoo, Suho with their guards down. I wonder if it’s because most PR and interviews ask them very superficial questions pre-reviewed by their management… and even with members who didnt do much talking like Sehun, Kai, Xiumin, you could see in their faces how affected they all are. I am definitely one of those biased against kpop groups i had the impression it was all very shallow, cutesy, no real vocals, and EXO shattered that bias for me. I love how fiercely and confidently Baekhyun answered JYP about being recognized as true artists. I love them all so much. PS You gotta react to Boomerang Live in Elyxion with the three piece suits and gold mic stands!!!

Manchego Babi

Aw, i loved this, its been a while since ive watched. Their vocals are top tier 💯 %. I bet JYP was kicking himself for rejecting Xiumin when he auditioned for him . They bend over backwards for fans, they really know it could go away so they are thankful

Gayle (Gigi) Flippen

Sadly It’s been proven time and again there is a ton of backlash in particular with Korean fans/culture with dating and marriage and these big kpop companies force idols to come out w/ letters and they have to apologize and it’s become such a norm for idols to apologize for normal life choices that some fans are very entitled it’s sad watching almost everything they do or say get scrutinized and they are essentially harassed into giving into fan’s opinions and it’s been going on since beginning of kpop and how idols are marketed. It’s really sad especially being a fan of a group like a have been w/ EXO since pre-debut and see how some “fans” treat them and some of the stuff is worse now then it even was in the beginning

Kim56

The order exo is sitting in during boomerang is their standing order on stage when it's 8 of them, when Lay is there he stands between Kai and Kyungsoo. So in the ments when they speaking during the next few concerts you will watch they will be in that order.

Sooingkids

We miss EXO. Their company mismanaged (and of course, still) them. It's a crime.

Suwarno
