When you put that much time and energy into something it becomes part of your identity and letting that go is really difficult. So many of us stick with the same career because we put so many years and time into it or even out of fear but I definitely think that if you're in a position to be able to change careers, if you're not happy it's better to change and see what could happen than be miserable not knowing if you could've been happier doing something else. For me, being happy professionally has made me even more happier personally just because that daily mental load of having to deal with the job every day while also coming to grips with the sadness of losing my passion for something I really enjoyed doing at one time (I was a sous chef in a very beautiful yet chaotic behind the scenes restaurant for 10 yrs fyi), all of that has been lifted off and I am even more happier in my personal life now. I am now a baker in a small bakery/cafe lmao Okay so not that different but it's peaceful and I enjoy baking than that fast paced craziness as a sous chef. It takes courage to make a change and I love that you now get more time to spend with your loved ones and do something career wise without a heaviness in your heart. I teared up ngl, when you spoke about having to call members of your team up and let them go. That's some tough sh*t to have to do. Many people think sous chefs have it easier than head chefs but I disagree lmao I had to work on the scheduling, train new chefs, deal with the kitchen staff, make sure everything was in working order, let people go on behalf of the head chef etc etc so I get it. It's tough to do once let alone be tasked with having to do it more than once π΅βπ« I don't blame you at all for leaving. I don't have any of that responsibility anymore and I got my mojo back ππ₯° Anyway sorry about the rambling. I was just really moved by that discussion and appreciated your honesty and openness talking about it.

2024-06-08 11:00:37 +0000 UTCI'm so glad you've found a path that makes you happier. I don't think I realised at the time the impact my job and my situation was having on me. It took me a long time to realise just how big a weight had been lifted off my chest. Now I get to do the version of my career that I love, and spend more time with my wife and kids. Happiness is so underrated!!

I went through just about the same thing last year in terms of needing a career change because my heart was just not in it anymore so I changed and I'm happier for it. Loved that discussion. I'm so glad this could become something that could give back to you two as much as you give out to all of us. Well deserved. I wish you both the best π©΅
