This was a beautiful opportunity to try out some new techniques, including a brush for roughing up the wall in the background. Pretty much since the end of last year, I've been more thoughtful about aspect ratios -- not that it makes or breaks a piece, but I like the process of deciding on an aspect ratio (like 2:3 for upright portraits) and making the scene fit into it.
