Skunk Shaman

While working on concept sketches for the bear shaman who’s shown up in a few pieces a while back, I wanted to explore other healing/mediation traditions in the region. This skunk is dressed head to, well, ankle in the dour black typical of her station. A rough badger concept also got scribbled out at the same time, but what I'd really like is get back to that bear and revisit her design...

Apart from the tail, I guess there's not much separating her from a spotted skunk (which have truly wonderful patterns that I'd hate to obscure). Funny enough, I picked up a 7 of cups sticker at an event a few months ago. It was a more or less random choice, but ended up resonating pretty well once I read up on the meaning. It lives on my water bottle right now as I navigate all these life choices...

Or a personal pull to get inspiration for what to have for dinner? 😛. Such a great character! Fun to see this majikal universe expanded 💚✨. I'm assuming she is a striped skunk, but the embellishments on the outfit reminds me of the markings of a spotted skunk. And I love the design for her headwear. There has to be a function for it, as well as fashion. And the pink peets 🥹. Adorable.

I get the impression that this shaman may also dabble in sorts of witchcraft and mysticism, perhaps to a degree that locals may have wary reservations? "Beyond the treeline exists a burrough, which reeks of sulphur and echoes strange incantations at odd hours... Some say that those who have gone to investigate, have never returned..." In reality, they are super chill and are simply nocturnal. XD
