Sketchbook (PAGE 5)

A bunch of unstructured dicking around mostly -- but really, that's pretty much the usual. The concept sketches for "Back to Nature" make an appearance. It's way too easy to picture Juno as the kind of hiker who immerses herself in the wilderness by packing the essentials and shedding everything else. Doesn't hurt that the trails in her locale have clothing-optional status.

There's also some hyena sketches that led to "Umxakaza and the Lake Monster". She's a character I drew years prior, originally as a guerilla soldier. She's chilled out significantly since then. The themes I focus on now are much more peaceful than when I was younger and getting into art a little more seriously. Of course, that's just a part of evolving as an artist and figuring out what you want to say with your work.

Maybe next time I'll upload something a little more current instead of digging up ancient history...

Its always nice to see what you do!

Glad you like it. It's like an iceberg and this is the 90% of what I do, haha

Kalahari

If I didn't feel it out in sketches like this, I don't know if I'd ever get that kind of weight in these characters. Sometimes is just feels right, after enough adjusting.

Kalahari

Woo! More sketch pages to study. :D Again, what stands out to me is the way weight and gravity work with your characters, and how you love to tinker with build on these pages. :D

And this is how you get to be the best! Thanks for sharing these!

Ooo~ These are pretty nice

I love seeing your sketches. They tell a story of how your pics are made. And that's part of the fun of making art.

Kiko

Ah, fair enough! It was so striking I had to ask 🙂

Stewart

Thanks! No particular story. That just came about because I wanted to play with some colors at the moment.

Kalahari

Lovely sketches, it’s fun seeing the rough ideas behind pieces I recognise, like the one of Juno hiking. Out of interest, is there a story behind the multicoloured eye? It’s really pretty!
