Yeah, I agree that the sequels were too silly and the Turtles looked worse. I didn't mind the plot of the third one and Stuart Wilson plays a good bad guy, like he did in Lethal Weapon 3, but it was more of the writing and the visuals that let the film down. The tone change is very similar to the shift from the Tim Burton Batman films to the Joel Schumacher Batman films.

Yeah, the sequels were more enjoyable as a kid because I didn't notice as much of the differences but the first one was definitely the best one. The fact that it was more violent and intense is what made it better! More exciting and the Turtles looked better. This is very similar to what happened to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers after the second season. Lord Zedd was considered to be too scary and intimidating by some parents, so they made it more silly after that year. Also, Judith Hoag was the better April O'Neil (looked more the part as well). Paige Turco was better in other films.

This movie was a big downgrade from the first one in every way. Even the new "more high tech" suits were worse. You can literally see where the helmet meets the neck on them. I don't remember seeing that at all in the first film even though it had a much smaller budget and had to do everything for cheap. The one thing they did do better is the mouth's. They move more realistically and you can't see the performer inside through the mouth hole as easily. Just a shame the studio forced the tone change and made 2 and 3 so much goofier than the first. I would have loved to see a more mature version of the sequels.... well actually.... a completely different 3rd film all together lol. They ran out of ideas after 2 films and had to resort to time travel.

I really enjoyed watching y'alls reaction. I wanted to include some trivia: Judith Hoag wasn't approached by the studio to reprise her role as April because allegedly she complained a lot about the level of violence in the first movie, thus the recasting. Also, Corey Feldman got into some trouble with the law (I believe it was drug related) and he was recast in the voiceover for Donatello. The voice actor for Raphael was also recast. The studio also toned down the violence of this movie by limiting the Turtles' use of their weapons and mostly fighting hand-to-hand, which was actually a criticism of the movie when it debuted in theaters. Lastly, the creators of the franchise, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, objected to the proposed idea for Rocksteady and Bebop to make their live action debut because supposedly they thought these characters were annoying and stupid in the animated series. So the mutants Tokka and Rahzar were created for the movie, and have made other appearances in the franchise since. I look forward to watching y'all's reaction to the next one if that's in the works.
