It really is a bit of a trip - in my mind, one of Cronenbergs more abstract films, and one which is difficult to analyse. What is real? What isn't? We're left to decide for ourselves really, and it can seem confusing - I've rewatched it many a time and still have questions about it. The ugly waiter wasn't Cronenberg, so to see him in a scarily dispassionate role, check out Nightbreed (another film with excellent practical effects/prosthetics)
