I wouldn't worry too much about not being able to follow the plot at this time. It's setting up a lot of moving pieces, many names are being thrown around and it's hard to make sense of it all, it becomes info overload. But it will start to make a lot more sense as the show progresses, we are creatures of habit after all, if we keep hearing the same names over and over, we will eventually remember them :) It's not really needed to understand the political climate of Japan in the 1600's, I can say I for certain have no clue about how it was back then, or if this show or the book before it is a good representation of it, all I know it's really entertaining once you start getting a better grasp of the plot and its characters.

2024-04-03 20:33:13 +0000 UTCWhen I heard this was in the works I scoffed and proclaimed it a failure before it even started. Rarely am I so glad to be proven wrong, I love this show so far, at least as much as I loved the 1980's version when I saw that one back in the late 80's or early 90's, can't quite remember when I watched it for the first time. The actors are fantastic, Cosmo Jarvis does such a different take on the character than what we got from Richard Chamberlain, and I really enjoy his performance in this, I had never heard of him before but I will keep an eye out for him after this.
