EARLY ACCESS: THE WIRE | TV Reaction | Season 4 - Ep. 5 + 6 | First Time Watching

The Primary Election for Mayor is fast approaching as Marlow figures out how he will get revenge on Omar. Here's our reaction to our first time watching The Wire. Season 4, Episodes 5 & 6 ('Alliances' & 'Margin of Error')

EARLY ACCESS: THE WIRE | TV Reaction | Season 4 - Ep. 5 + 6 | First Time Watching

Comments

Yeah, the Wire is about the city of Baltimore as a whole and how everything connects. It's not a cops and robbers series. For people expecting that, then you're missing the beauty of what makes the Wire the best written series. It literally shows how all elements connect.

Exactly, even since season one, there’s a reason they focused on detailing *every* bureaucratic stonewall and pitfall and didn’t just progress the case at lighting speed like a straight crime drama. The politics are central to the thematic point the show is making. It’s a bit reminiscent of people complaining about the family aspect of the sopranos and not having enough mob elements.

The distant background music in The Wire might be the best in any series ever. This episode had Curtis Mayfield and Rick James. Primo.

Sean Carleton

Agreed. I'm no fan of politicians either, but as The Wire is clearly showing, "all the pieces matter". Ignoring it is ignoring vast holes in the system that makes it wrong. You have to pay attention, even if it's frustrating. If a liar was pulling strings behind your back you wouldn't exactly turn a blind eye.

Politics are going to apart of this show till the end. It’s necessary to flesh out the themes of the series. This show has always been about politics in some sense from policing to the docks. The election and Carcetti’s arc is one of my favorite of the series, so I loved to see it.

You guys have to check out the Clay Davis Bobble head commercials on YouTube. Random find one day and it still cracks me up whenever I think about it.

We should close businesses too to give people more time to vote

The Mr is a PRO at getting the Mrs’s goat. That Fuzzy Dunlop business was about to get SERIOUS lol. That lady does not fuck around.

Stan the Man

Yes, they do close schools in maryland for election day. I thought they did this everywhere but I guess not. Lol! Schools in maryland are used as the polling places. It's where we go to vote, so school is close to students abs classes for that day and is counted as a holiday for the students and staff.

Carla Davis

My understanding is that David Simon initially wanted to spin the political stuff off into a separate show after season 3, but obviously that didn't work out. So given that, I do get why they resolved the election midway through the season.

I mean I get not liking politicians but it seems like that’s really clouding the judgement of the storyline. They didn’t focus on it for one and a half season to just drop it now lol. There’s a larger point being made with it. I did expect Carcetti to win the first time around but I didn’t expect it to be at this point of the season. First time around I thought it would be a season long race so was pleasantly surprised it resolved relatively quickly.

The big guy in jail with the hat who's protecting Omar in episode 6 is Donnie Andrews -- the primary real-life inspiration for Omar.

I’m ready for more school year🙌
