The guy who played Detective Cole (who was a producer on the show) died between seasons, so the emotion at the wake was real. The other Detective, Norris (the guy that brought Jimmy a drink and threw up in the gutter was the recently fired actual Baltimore Police Commissioner who green lit them making the show so they hired him as a consultant as a thank you after he got fired
