* The show's opening theme "Way Down in the Hole" was written by Tom Waits and appeared on his 1987 album "Frank's Wild Years." Each season features a different cover of the song, beginning in season 1 with the Blind Boys of Alabama. The instrumental closing theme is "The Fall" written by jazz composer Blake Leyh, and it may be IMHO the greatest closing themes of all time. * One of the unwritten "rules" of the show's naturalistic presentation is that all music within the episodes must have a natural source within the scene, such as a car stereo or boom box for out-of-door scenes. This episode represents the only time in the series (I believe) that this rule is broken, for the jazzy score playing as Avon and his entourage are entering The Pit to dole out the reward money for Brandon's capture. * Such a great moment when Lester realizes that the missed calls from the previous evening are perfectly timed to Brandon's murder. Also nice to see that Prez, when you take him away from guns and street work, may have a mind for this "spy shit." Everybody has value. * Wallace is a smart, caring kids but he's no gangster. He cares about the kids he looks after, obviously. But he also can't abide what happened to Brandon. He knew they were going to kill him, but it was an abstract concept to him at the time. Even if Wee Bey, Stinkum, and Bird hadn't tortured the kid to death, putting him on display like that cemented to Wallace that this killing was on him.

You Me & The TV You guys should ask for people who comment on the Reactions to ONLY comment on what YOU have seen so far in the story because I'm already seeing comments about Storylines & or Characters that haven't even been introduced yet which takes away from you experiencing them for the first time in a genuine way. #TellemTANKseddit

You just pushed me into my fourth rewatch of The Wire, not that I'm complaining. :) I love watching people get along with this series, sometimes I wish I could eraze my memory and do it again. Anyway, it doesn't get worse for the second or third time, you always find something new in there, get a different eye on some characters and situations. There are a lot of characters to keep up with... For me Jay Landsman is one of the most overlooked characters, but he probably has the worst job to do. He has to keep his boss Rawls happy, while showeling all the sh*t he wants from him down towards the detecives, and somehow keep their respect too. It's not an easy position to be in.
