It’s not only because of the slang but also because it’s a densely plotted show in general with a lot of characters and may be hard to follow at first. Even later on, with some of the street characters you’re still probably gonna need subs but maybe by then you may be used to the speaking style.

The show throws a lot at you fast, and if you're like me (a middle-aged, middle class white dude who isn't from Baltimore) the accents and slang might take you a minute to get your ears around.
