Christmas 2022 - Movie Poll #3 (Comedy)

Comments

You seem to be taking this very personally. “You seem to be a guilty until proven innocent kind of guy”. It always interesting when people say this. Innocent until proven guilty is a court of law. I am not sentencing anyone to prison or passing sentence on them. Also, you seem to have misunderstood something. This is not about anything other than suspension of disbelief. I did not make a conscious choice in this case. When viewing Kevin Spacey movies, because of the baggage associated with him, my mind will not allow me to see anything other than an actor/awful human being. It takes me out of the immersive experience I look for in film. Now, as I already stated, when it comes to his villainous roles? I seem to have no problem. When it comes to something he produced like “The Social Network”, no problem. I highlighted this with my “O.J Simpson” example. So again, when it comes to viewing actors or actresses who may or may not have done wrong things, it’s a case by case sort of thing. Johnny Depp? No problem. Now if Harvey Weinstein was an actor, I might have the same issue. He is not an actor & so suspension of disbelief is not a factor. As for your “mature & levelheaded” way of thinking, sure. Maybe you’re right. Maybe that is the more mature and levelheaded way. That would make sense. I am one immature motherfucker. Now as for your “guilty before innocent”. Again. This isn’t a court of law. I am not on a jury. But boy let me tell ya, I have a first class bullshit detector. Whether or not it’s proven in a court of law, I know what Kevin Spacey is, same way I know what a guy like Donald Trump or Bill Clinton is. Frankly I don’t give two shits if that’s good enough for you or others. Cool? Cool.

"But until I see or hear of any actual charges and accusations brought up against someone" So you're a guilty until proven innocent kind of guy? Do you not see the ridiculousness of this?🙄 Look, you're welcome to your opinion and all, but there are countless "bad people" that have produced some of the worlds greatest art. Personally, I think the best way to go is to separate the art from the personal life of the artist. Otherwise, as @Chase Lonnergan so rightly pointed out, you would have to exclude almost every movie for one reason or another. Tell me, do you still watch Good Will Hunting? Any film ever produced by Miramax? Those films never would have happened had it not been for Harvey Weinstein. How about Johnny Depp and his films? Did you jump on the accusation bandwagon with him? Interesting how that one turned out, wasn't it? That's just a couple examples of an endless list of films you would be forced to toss out for whatever arbitrary reason, just because of accusations that may or may not be true. Seems pretty ridiculous to me. OR..... You can recognize that Kevin Spacey, despite what he may or may not have actually done, turned in some of the best performances in cinema history. And some of those films are absolutely brilliant. And you can still enjoy them despite his actions outside of the arts. Seems like the more mature and levelheaded way to go to me.🤷

The fuck? Are you ok? I don’t care if someone watches the ref or not. I’m only giving my two cents. That’s why this place has comments. “Don’t entertain him that’s what he wants”. Uh no. Everyone has their own opinion about what they like and don’t like. Mine is no more important or valid than anyone else’s. The simple fact is there are people out there who don’t like Kevin Spacey since it’s been revealed he’s a rapist. That can trigger some people. That’s all I was saying. It wasn’t a rant or anything beyond my own opinion.

Stan the Man

Cmon guys. Dosens of channels have Channing places and the ref is nowhere and no one is heard of it. The ref is about a realistic family dinner. It’s not perfect or sentimental, the marriages are rough and the in-laws are a pain not to mention the sister in law who think she has a perfect life. No miracles happen apart from an armed robber coming to hold the family hostage which actually gives the family a chance to speak their mind, and gives the robber a chance to think his life isn’t so bad by comparison. Its a great Xmas movie and a real one. Instead of a perfect family having a perfect Xmas, it’s a lousy family having a Xmas where the gunman isn’t the worst thing they have to deal with this time of year.

jimmy2k4o .

why do you even answer Stan The Man don\t entertain him this is what he wants. I became a Patron to watch and listen to movies with Mr. and Mrs. Movies great reactions. These two wonderful people do the best reactions on You Tube. I didn't join to listen to Stan's rants. Give it a rest Stan.

The world is full of monsters. Hollywood is no exception. But until I see or hear of any actual charges and accusations brought up against someone I’m not going to base anything off a list of names. I doubt everyone who knew Epstein was a monster rapist. Not everyone who knew, I duno, say Pablo Escobar, was buying cocaine off him. Yes we know there are powerful people probably doing bad things on that island. Prince Andrew, Trump, Clinton and even Kevin Spacey. But until I hear someone credible say like a Tom Hanks or Daniel Day Lewis was on that island doing some bad shit I don’t think seeing a name on a list means all of Hollywood was raping people on Epstein’s island

Stan the Man

Clearly you didn't see the Epstein Flight logs, or the Maxwell client list. Hollywood is full of monsters.

Chase Lonnergan

So long as they aren’t raping people I can usually look past that. OJ murdered two people and yet somehow I can still laugh at Naked Gun(granted his part is mostly having extremely painful things happening to him whilst laying in a hospital bed). But Kevin Spacey? Everytime I see his mug I can’t see the character he’s suppose to play. But the piece of shit he is. Maybe if he spent the movie getting the OJ Naked Gun treatment it would be a different story

Stan the Man

My man, if we were to stop watching movies because they star terrible human beings, we couldn't watch anything ever again.

Chase Lonnergan

@Kristian Yeah a lot of other people worked on the movie, that’s true. But for me that’s just an unfortunate side effect of all this. For me when i see Spacey in a non villainous role I find it impossible to invest in the movie. I can’t suspend my disbelief. I can’t help it.

Stan the Man

I think that’s different tho because he plays an evil villain so the suspension of disbelief isn’t as hard. Watching American Beauty of a movie where he’s a good guy…it’s hard to see past it. I had the same problems with Bill Cosby. Thankfully most of his movies were pretty terrible anyways.

Stan the Man

The Ref would be edgier, more adult, whereas Trading Places is clean fun. Sure The Ref has that weirdo Kevin Spacey, but he's protraying a character for the film and not embodying himself or his personal sinister traits, and I wonder if it was even before he got scandalous with life. Anyways! Either choice is tubular, rock on everybody!

I can understand the disgust with Spacey but a lot of other people worked on the movie too. I feel weird discounting all of their work because he’s a beastly person.

Kristian

Well, a lot of reactors reacted to Se7en and The Usual Suspects and that had Kevin Spacey in them. Idk. I guess to each reactor, mileage may vary with Kevin.

Jacob Colson

Here’s the problem with The Ref. Which I use to watch. It’s got Kevin Spacey in the co lead. Some people can’t stand watching Kevin Spacey anymore since his downfall. I’m one of those people. So just a heads up incase that might be an issue for you or the Mrs. Trading Places is awesome. Tho I don’t think of it as a Christmas movie.

Stan the Man

The Ref is such a great movie.... I know Trading Places is the popular flick and will likely win, but you guys should REALLY check out The Ref as well. It's absolutely hilarious.

Brian Jones

Trading Places will win it and its a great movie but if you guys can find time you should also try 'The Ref', its a Christmas classic

Andy G

Yeah this one was a little obvious :p

Martin Nicholls

Trading places is a classic…but The Ref is the best Christmas movie up there. It has way more of a Christmas theme/message than Trading Places

I am drawing a complete blank on "Mixed Nuts" which surprises me since I love Steve Martin.

Thomas Yanez

The Ref. It won’t win but it’s the funniest movie up there.
