I saw the different shape this way : the disc was its stealth/speed form. It had given up on stealth at the end there, after trying to ingest the barb wire fence, and was just attacking in its 'ooh, look at me, I'm big and scary', but seemingly slow, form. Then, after grabbing the giant inflatable, it compressed back down to speed away with its prey.
