I think we're given the reason for Kara's erratic decisions, etc toward the end of the series. Has been a while since I watched so can't remember exactly when.

You guys will love it- I highly recommend it if even just for your personal enjoyment! It is truly the successor to BSG and even surpasses it in every way!
