Yeah, there's no historical record of the Salem "witches" having accurate visions or anything actually supernatural. Almost certainly, it was just a bunch of lunatic puritans murdering apothecaries for making lip balm and shit. Or maybe not even that much. The Scarlet Letter is probably the most likely thing. Women start banging anyone but their (arranged) husband and all of the sudden the devil is involved, lol.
