2022-02-26 00:26:22 +0000 UTCLots of fan favorite characters making their debut appearances in these two episodes. Richie Aprile is a particular favorite - David Proval's performance is fantastic. The cliche is that Italian organized crime all goes back to Sicily but the Sicilian Mafia (or La Cosa Nostra) are only one of many crime groups in Italy. Here Tony and company are dealing with the Camorra, who rule the city of Naples and the surrounding region of Campania the way the Mafia rules Sicily. Camorristi have spread across Western Europe almost as much as Mafiosi have spread across North America, and besides the Sicilian Mafia, they're probably the Italian crime group with the most dealing with their American Mafia counterparts. During the scene where the kid is lighting firecrackers we see vehicles marked "Carabinieri" peel out quickly. The Carabinieri are Italy's national police force and are actually a separate branch of the Armed Forces, being trained and armed as paramilitary commandos. They frequently have running gun battles with soldiers of Italy's various criminal groups. I think showing them running away quickly was meant to demonstrate that the part of Naples where the meeting was held was absolutely under the control of the Camorra and even the police were afraid to go up against them there.
