I feel like if Jayne hadn't said, "Make somethin' up. Don't tell 'em what I did"...Mal would've let him die Some people say he never meant to kill him and just wanted him to sweat, but I believe Mal's a no BS ex-soldier So I think Jayne showed what he was really made of when he said that and it saved his life
