I just assumed Deb may have said Dexter relapsed on his "addiction" from Season 2 and that Deb was babysitting him while he detox to make sure he doesn't get himself fired (off camera).

2021-08-04 01:11:02 +0000 UTCI thought exactly the same thing. We all got used to Dexter killing but when Deb found out we were brought back to the reality of the situation. Dexter is a killer and its pretty disturbing what he does. Oh and the Ukrainian mob storyline gets more interesting, you'll see. 😎 Deb finding out is one of the highlights of the series!!

This is still one of my favorite seasons even with the minor plothole! It would have made more sense for Deb to stay at Dexter's, say her air conditioning was broken or something.
