Comments

if I watched the tapes, absolutely i would have let them walk away

Nicole McAlpine

Yeah I would have walked away, i think the crime commited against Lumin was worse than murder, the victims live in constant pain they deserved it. Deb knows that and decided that Lumin had already been punished enough and I would have thought the same.

Connor Elgy

That comment by Deb is out of no where. It almost feels like the writers simply put it in there to make people think maybe Deb knows it was Dexter.

no more happy endings from now on

When I first saw the scene where Deb creeped up on Dexter and Lumen. My heart was in my throat. It's tough, I don't know what I would have done in Deb's shoes.

Oh, and I think Quinn has an idea that Dexter was involved with Liddy's death. I don't know if he kept his mouth shut purely because he loves Deb or if he figures he might have done the same thing in the same situation or what, but I do think he gave Dexter a couple of knowing looks.

I don't know what I would have done, but I'm glad she let them go. Interesting to wonder what would have happened had she found out who they were. I've seen this show umpteen times and I still have no idea why Deb said "you must be relieved. Now that its all over I mean" to Dexter. I can't imagine how the writers meant it or why even if JC did a terrible job acting it. Makes no sense to me. But I dearly love this season and have thoroughly enjoyed watching it with you both!

I honestly think that wherever Lumen went her dark passenger never completely disappeared. I'd like to think as a character Lumen eventually runs into another situation where she uses what Dexter has taught her to save the day in her own way. Also it's a 50/50 for me on whether or not I'd let Lumen go. I mean what if her experiences have let her to become a deranged killer after taking out Jordan Chase. I'm sure Debs perspective is different why? Because she actually watched the tapes. Maybe I would let her go if I saw those tapes. That's a tough question.

I think if I had seen the tapes over 10 times I would have asked them to come out but let them go, I am a curious one. But I guess Deb did not want to know who they are because she would feel guilty and end up busting them. I know season 5 has shaky writing but it is actually 3rd on my favorite season list.

Deb is a great detective but has the biggest heart on the show. She understands that even though murders have been committed, she also realizes that if it were her, she would want those monsters brought to justice. I guess she was torn between her humanity and her duty to Miami Metro, and humanity won. After her experience of losing her father and Rita, especially Rita, because she was innocent, as was the 13th Jordan Chase victim. I know this is pretty winded, but Deb is a complicated and multi-faceted character, and Jennifer Carpenter plays her flawlessly.
