top quality discussion as always

Going through the Greed Island cards and trying to imagine what cool combinations of 3 cards you can bring to the "real world" is a lot of fun!

Yeah, Killua has always had so much love to share and it’s beautiful seeing him grow more into himself and become capable of giving that love to those around him. I used to think it was crazy to introduce such an op ability, but once again Togashi satisfies me with how he wraps it up, it’s as you said: there’s a reason why it’s Killua who doesn’t have those rules apply to him, because he’s the one who sees his sister, nothing more. Cursed is the one who wishes. No one approaches the Other in an attempt to genuinely connect or understand.

All fair points regarding the contrived aspect of Nanika and the powers tbh Will we be able to see you for the discussion portion of 148 ?

On the 'aniki' 'onii-chan' distinction. It is less about respect and more about feeling. "Onii-chan' is more affectionate, as shown by using the 'chan' suffix. Can be more childish too, which can be part of being affectionate. Aniki is more rough. It is not more formal or imply more respect, but rather more 'slang like' if anything. It is stereotyped to be used among yakuza members of the same "family", for example. For Hunter X Hunter Alluka uses 'chan' either because she is really young or because she is a girl (or both). Killua meanwhile is a cool boy and uses aniki instead. That would probably be the case even if he actually liked Illumi. To contrast both 'onii-san' is the more neutral term. It is what one uses when talking about someone else's older brother, for instance. "Onii-sama" is the truly formal and overly respectful one.

I think the feeling of Gon being healed in this manner being a bit contrived is understandable. As a viewer, i always believed Gon could be healed. Especially after seeing what Netero could achieve i had a hunch that Nen abilities strong enough to do it were certainly out there (even had a crack theory at the time of Chrollo potentially having something in that book of his for it (yes, this doesn't make sense...)). I was surprised to see a solution brought into the story so... 'conveniently?' My main problem was a lack of set up for it. If there had been, i wouldn't have had any problems with it i think. It does help that the story written around all of this is really good, and that Aluka and Something are great additions to the cast. Looking back, altough not perfect, i think this was fine.

I cannot believe you said that line that “It’s almost as if he’s still under Illumi’s control” and exactly predicted what Killua would say moments later. Your understanding of character dynamics is so elite. I love that this is the moment that Alluka finally steps up and asserts herself. It’s this moment of absolute refusal where Togashi challenges you to not see Alluka as different only because of the Other. Alluka and the Other are one. There is no separating them, even if they are two different beings. Real powerful statement considering the gender identity at play as well. This episode never fails to make me cry. The family bonds, be it by birth or chosen family, all come to a head here. It’s just so, so moving. I fucking love this episode. Somehow not ready for this to end.

That last scene with Alluka and Killua never fails to make me cry.

Man I love how Togashi writes smart characters, it's all step by step deduction that the audience can follow, no Sherlock-type-nonsense, that's why I get hyped everytime we get those tasty monologues! I joined your channel on that Volleyball match episode when you talked about the Gon-Killua relationship and possible problems in that relationship, following his incredible character arc in all it's phases with you was a treat! I'm so happy for Killua finally finding his life purpose. I really love how the fated long awaited meeting with Ging is in a meaningless political event with Ging not even on stage but among the audience no grand moment or anything, really highlighting the journey rather than the destination.
