In a way this is a bit of a combo of original Japanese version, Final Mix and the manga of KH2 - Axel burned away in the original version, Saïx was obviously angry and distressed about Axel fading away in the Final Mix scenes, aaand well in the manga it was Saïx who effectively killed Axel in a berserk rage.
It all makes for some delicious gay pain 8') At least for me
