Ch5 pgs 13-14 commentary!

Hey ho! Time for the first comic page commentary! Thought I'd combo the last two pages.

So the point of these is to talk about What It All Means. Kind of a walkthrough of the comic. This is non-spoilery stuff and if you just recently binged the comic you might get all this on your own, buuuut this is a slowly updating webcomic (that's been on a break since May...) so I can't expect everyone to remember all the minute details :D

Let's start!

Mirien opens the way to the elves' hideaway. Inara probably could've done this too now that she knew what to look for, which is why she and Mischief were about to kill Mirien off. Buuut then there's the whole thing that they couldn't find anything in there without elven eyes. I phrase it like that on purpose, btw ;D

Inara trips on her own feet here and Mischief catches her. She's not badly hurt, just a few pokes and cuts here and there, but the numbing energy she took from the two humans is too much and is messing her up. Mischief wants her to sober up.

This line from Mischief and Mirien reflected in his eye are a hint to one of Mischief's strengths: divination.

Vard notices Kai is looking a little freaked out, all the while Tuimar orders the other elves to grab the remaining prisoners, including Kielo!

The point of this page is to tell you that by this world's rules, Inara should not be able to do what she just did to a bunch of elves and the fact that she did is exceptional and worrisome.

Elves and Unknown are both "natural mages", so their power flows from within (albeit can be enhanced with the aforementioned spells, wands and artifacts eg Mischief's drum and blood-stopping spell). But that power still comes from somewhere. In chapter 4 Mischief and Inara say the elves' power is linked to their deathlands (ch4pg14), but where is the Unknowns' power linked to that it makes someone like Inara possible?
