Akseli Gallen-Kallela - inspiration behind the UL covers
Added 2017-10-05 13:01:00 +0000 UTCI color the Unknown Lands covers differently than... pretty much everything else I do.
The reason is the covers have been a bit of an homage to the Finnish romantic nationalist artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela, and his beautiful, epic illustrations of the Kalevala (Finnish national epic, UL is heavily influenced by this too). I love his art so much. He brings the mythos alive with such beauty and magic. I wanted a touch of that magic into Unknown Lands as well.
Other inspirations for the covers are modern artists such as Stag&Serpent and Adrian Baxter.
